I have stayed at the Melasti 3 times now, it is a great place to stay, it has the beautiful traditional balinese layout, there is a great bar and food area near the entrance that always has some music on, it was always fun down there, the music cant be heard when your in your room either which is great if you want a quiet night. It sits right on the beach of kuta and only a 2 minute walk into kuta square for shopping and more places to eat and drink. I would recommend this place to anyone, i hope this helps your stay in wonderful smiley bali

Location, location, location. This hotel is ideally placed and within walking disttance of almost everything in Kuta and or Tuban. The staff are outstanding and the rooms, although old and very tired, are spotlessly clean and comfortable. The one restaurant serves reasonably priced and tasty food but with a limited menu. No cups in rooms we stayed but when requesting from housekeeping, the reply was we could not have cups. No bath towels given after 1st night of stay and we have to ask for them. We were told to collect breakfast vouchers everyday from reception desk but when we did just that, we were told to go into the restaurant directly - however, entry was denied. One ensuite looks dirty and old. Bedrooms looks dark. two light bulbs were flickering in two of our rooms. Arrived in Bali in late evening at this hotel, ater having breakfast in the following morning, two of us had bad stomach upset - experience was reported to hotel staff but was told to have nothing to do with and not come from hotel. the room apeared ok,nice big bed, big room, we had a dulux room so could here the ocean,the toilet didnt stop running, and the kettle didnt work, i called reception for a new kettle, the man came and jiggled it, it still didnt work, so he kept jiggling it until it worked, then said it was fixed. so for hot water it was an exercise of jiggling and hoping it didnt short out. the kids loved the pools, it was fairly quiet so we had the place to ourselves. the breakfast was nice,a bit off putting was the resident rat that watched us from the wall every morning. a tourisst nearly stood on it one morning which was very funny but not too good when eating.Hotel Facilities

The staff here were unfriendly and in some instances quite rude. Upon arrival at reception I was treated as though I was some kind of inconvenience. With matahari, kuta centre, kuta art centre and discovery mall within walking distance, the location of this hotel is rather good, but far from beach (not a prob cos u'll walk pass many stalls and shops which will keep u busy).
Hotel is very unique with nice decorations and all, but the room is pretty normal for a 3 star hotel. The hotel restaurant has got live band and close to the street, consider a bintang there once u checked into your room.
If you've been to kuta before, you'd not like the location as its not close to poppies and legian street, but if ur a first timer like me, you cant ask for more. Away from the mayhem and hustling but near!
No shortcut to the beach, the shortcut that ppl have been talking abt is to jump over a fence from the hotel's swimming pool, but its not a gd idea afterall.
You'll have to cut through discovery mall to get access to the beach, but you can forget it cos the beach directly behind melasti is not attractive and no action there.
Im rather dissappointed with the kuta beach cos its dirty, messy and murky water, can even find dead fish on the beach. probably is becos of the monsoon season, im not sure will the condition improve come march-sept.
The spa services in this hotel apparantly is one of the better known ones. Not exactly a must-try, only if you got time and $$.
Overall, a great place/location to stay for a first timer. But don't expect great rooms and hotel services.Hotel Facilities

I booked a superior room for 20 days during March 09 and was pleasantly surprized to be upgraded to a deluxe room. The room was huge and had very good hot water which if you go to Bali often can be a hit or miss situation. The Melasti Beach Bungalows has a sister resort at Legian called the Melasti beach Resort. I stayed there in Jan 09 and rate both hotels great value for money. The Kuta Melasti is right near Kuta Sqaure, Waterbom Park and Discovery Shopping Mall and only a few minutes to the beach. The staff are great, the spa excellent and the breakfast a very good buffet style. The rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day by a smiling staff member and nothing was too much trouble.The hotel has 2 pools, one that is huge and very refreshing and with tons of shade and a kiddies wqading pool and the other a good size pool mainkly in the sun and therefore warmer water.The Melasti may appear a bit old and tired but it is undergoing restoration. In a busy area once you enter the grounds you are in a quiet haven seemingly far away from the hustle and bustle.I have been to Bali 5 times and if you want a great value for money hotel close to everything and with good facilities then you can not go past this hotel. OK, it's a 3 star hotel, but at the price you certainly couldn't complain. Good value for what you pay. I stayed at Ayu Beach in on Poppy I the next night though which is only a 10 minute walk away and half the price minus a tv but who watches tv in Bali anyway. The room at Melasti was nice, clean, spacious, and the surroundings are lush with a nice pool. It's not beachfront (maybe 10 minute walk through the main brand name tourist shopping area.Hotel Facilities

We were with the room, standard room at Melasti means old and poorly maintained, the bathroom needed a good cleaning and it smelled mould. The size of the room was very good. We could add an extra bed easily and still have space to use the sofa. I checked the possibility to upgrade but the price was too much more ( they only had deluxe room available), on the last day we checked a superior room and it was much better, like another hotel. I would stay there again but in a different room. The location is really, really good. The live music at the restaurant is loud but we can't hear anything from the rooms.Hotel Facilities

I have stayed at the Melasti 3 times now, it is a great place to stay, it has the beautiful traditional balinese layout, there is a great bar and food area near the entrance that always has some music on, it was always fun down there, the music cant be heard when your in your room either which is great if you want a quiet night. It sits right on the beach of kuta and only a 2 minute walk into kuta square for shopping and more places to eat and drink. The air con is not working. Imagine fully blast the air con and I still have to open the balcony door to sleep simply because I'm sweating whole nite???
Secondly the so called fitness center... please do something about it. Location wise is good but to let it opened and subject to salty atmosphere only makes the limited equipment damage faster. The hotel bungalow design and layout are traditional balinese. We got an upgrade to deluxe rooms from standard. Our room faced the beach and garden, so I could listen to the waves all day long plus live balinese music from the locals practising nearby. The only minus point is that it was the closest room to the temporary graves. Location, location, location - walking distance to beach, shopping complex and halal food places. The only complain is that there were flies everywhere, especially at the breakfast table. Hopefully, it is a seasonal thing because I have never been bombarded by flies in Bali in previous trips.
