It was a great entry point for our two week stay in Bali. The staff was welcoming, and very helpful in organizing a snorkeling trip on short notice. The accommodation was charming, if a little on the small side in the superior rooms. The chocolate mousse was a big hit, followed by a lovely night stroll down the beach boardwalk. We had everything we needed for a couple of days while we shifted gears into Bali time.

My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel for two nights. I found it quirky and fun. My main concern was the cost of food and beverages in the hotel. They were exceptionally high. Our breakfast was included (set menu) however my husband asked for one piece of extra toast and was charged accordingly. The cost was more than a whole loaf of bread at the circle k next door. The hotel is a little run down but you take that in the spirit of things as we were not looking for a comercial property but something a little different. On our first day, after filling the fridge with goods the door fell off and smashed our drinks. No appology was offered or replacement drinks etc. The fridge door had rusted through, after several hours we were given another fridge however found that it did not work. This is what I mean by a little run down. The deli out the front had a good range of cold drinks that wasn't too expensive so we didn't bother with the fridge after this.

Our second stay at La Taverna, and we noticed a real effort being made re professional serive delivery. For those that appreciate accomodation with character, this is a prime location - close to shopping,but right on the beach. The rooms are are quite dark because of the wide veranders, so some larger light bulbs would help, but the rooms are kept very clean and are well furnished. Would certainly recommend La Taverna to all but those that are looking for chrome towel rails and aluminium windows.

I liked the hotel overall because it is tastefully done and it does not attract the typical package traveler. Everything is wonderfully furnished and decorated, staff is more than nice and food is good. Yet, you cannot help feeling that the rooms need a little bit of an upgrade. The bed was too soft, but they changed it as soon as I complained. The pool is supernice and staff is just amazing. All young and smart. Bali coffee at breakfast is not exactly a hightlight - seeing the owner is Italian, they ought to offer a cup of nice coffee in the morning. The restaurant is really good but unfortunately a bit on the expensive side. If you go there, "Bonsai" just on the left is an alternative and so is "Beach Cafe" . I liked the way everything was nearby and our holiday was relaxing and I felt good at staying at La Taverna despite of minor flaws and rooms not being perfect. The atmosphere was great.

This was our third stay at La Taverna.We have yet to find anywhere as quiet and peaceful, so convenient for tourist needs, and yet so retentive of a feel of 'Bali' in any of our other tourist experiences on this island.La Taverna has its quirkiness and datedness that some would feel were faults by normal Western standards, but this is neither a resort hotel nor a chain hotel. The staff in our view are welcoming and genuinely happy to be part of your stay. The beachfront setting is clean and sandy, but if you are on holiday with kids, the hotel does lack somewhere for youngsters to play. The hotel food was good , well prepared, and always served with a smile. Disabled access is improving each yer we have returned, and Sanur itself is just one long street lacking the aggresive hawkers of places such as Kuta. La Taverna is for those who like an element of serenity, quaintness, and a feel of actually being in Bali, rather than in an hotel anywhere in the world .It is 3 star, not a galaxy.
