We stayed at Bakungs in Sept 2010, this was our 3rd time there... we love it.. yes, it's a little old and could probably use some paint and a tidy up, but its clean and comfortable and definately value for money... the location is perfect.. its away from the hustle & bustle.. but still close enough to things to do.. the main reason we stay at Bakungs is because the staff make us feel like we are part of a big family... we have stayed at other hotels in Bali over the years, but did not find the staff as helpful or as friendly as they are at Bakungs... top marks to all the staff... we will be..
Please be patient…

Georgia from Australia recently stayed in a Standard for 4 days.
It was a really cheap hotel, but the rooms showed it. They weren't very nice at all and they didn’t smell to good but the pool was nice and its far enough from Kuta. I also stayed at the bounty hotel for 56 a night and it was much much much nicer, but I wouldn’t recommend it for families, Bakung would be better for families. Bounty is full of young party people.Hotel Facilities

I have now stayed at Bakung Beach Cottages about 15 times. It is like a home away from home, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful,
the food is not extraudinary, but it is very tasty, very nutritious, always served at the right temperature. The rooms are very comfortable and the bath is wonderful and is in every room. It is lovely and quiet dispite being so close to everything. I love it and wil be back.Hotel Facilities

Friendly hotel in Tuban with a lot of possibilities in the neighborhood. Airport is very near even when you have not so much luggage you can walk. The hotel is not far from Kuta. A lot of restaurants in the neighborhood. For that kind of money, Bakung Beach Cottages is a good hotel.Hotel Facilities

LISA from Australia recently stayed in a Standard for 7 days.
I stayed at this place over 20 years ago, and it had not changed that much. Saying that on the upside I enjoyed my stay here, the grounds were quiet and the pool was really clean. Breakfast was average but a good selection.
The hotel is located down a side road of Katika plaza, but it’s only a 10 min walk up into Kuta and there is loads to see on the way. There was no sign saying the hotel was located down that road, so it could be a little tricky to find.
Walking back at night was a little iffy, but I still felt quite safe and many of the beauty spas are open to midnight.
As for my room, it was standard and on the ground level, I was told the lower levels offer the better rooms; it was huge and although out dated it was clean. The bathroom was a little compact.
There were also many older European guests staying there for weeks and just loved it! I believe because it was easy to get around and it did not restrict the elderly due to the flat paths and easy access into the pool, a great bonus if you're traveling with an elderly person, but it's not like a retirement home either.
Overall a great budget place, broken tiles in the pool, but they are making an effort to paint and improve. Just beside the hotel there is a massive construction site underway, and even this was going on noise was to a total minimum, but then they have only just started building.
I would stay again, I had loads of fun and it also had great air-con in room 112.

I would not stay there again. Bathroom had not been cleaned mold in tiles. The blanket on the bed was dirty itched all night. Staff friendly but a little cleaning needs doing. I was told by a ex-staff member if you complained it won’t do you any good. So be it. Lost me.Hotel Facilities

All at the hotel is dated. We are missing chairs in the room. The sanitair is old fashion and not good working. But for us it is OK because we need a room only for sleeping. But for a long stay it will be poor.Hotel Facilities

Some days didnt have extremly hot water but you dont need it in Bali. The room was cleaned everyday. My aircon leaked but was fixed the day it happened. Had a big tv and double bed. we only stayed one night and I was after budget and thats exactly what we got. The pool area etc is 2 stars - our room which looked onto a brick wall was definetly 1 star but saying that they put in an extra bed at no cost and the other rooms maybe quiet fine. I probably would not stay again but Ilike to try diferent places anyway. The staff were very nice !Hotel Facilities

Debra from Australia stayed in a Standard for 2 days.
The reception staff were not as friendly as most I had encountered in Bali. When I found no towels in my room and had to return to reception they would only give me one towel (for pool & bath). When I asked for a second towel I was told "no". Another hotel guest told me they were short of towels, which was why they probably couldn't (not "wouldn't") provide me with another towel - so I suggest you bring your own towel!!
Pool is badly in need of repairs -- cracked and loose tiles everywhere (take care!). Pool bar NOT OPERATING although the pool area very busy (go figure!!) I often couldn't get a sunbed by the pool they were full up (yes -- they need more chairs!!!). Very popular with the Dutch...few Aussies there (me and 5 party boys from Brisbane the only token Oz residents)
If you are after budget accom - this fits the bill! But if you can afford a few bucks more, go to "Febri's" about 50 metres down the road...absolute value for money there!!!
Spacious with air con & Satellite TV...but twice had to track down towels from reception after they removed used towel and then didn't replace. (need more towels??)
Quiet location near beach, shops & restaurants (try Mudi's just around the corner!)
Just walk down the end of the lane to Kartika Plaza St & catch a Blue Bird Taxi -- usually less than Rp20,000 to the airport!
Apart from the partying Aussie boys and the poor little dog across the street (feed him for me?) - a very quiet hotel!!
Budget hotel at a budget price -- just don't expect any more!!Hotel Facilities

Bakung Beach Cottages is a cheap no thrills Hotel. Rooms are basic and some could do with a paint, if you are just looking for a cheap place with air conditioning to come back to at the end of the day from exploring Bali with a great pool and swim up bar, its pretty good. Dont expect 5 star service as it is really only 1-2 star. The restaurant meals are good and cheap especially their pizzas. We have stayed at Bakung Beach Cottages for every one of our 6 trips to Bali. If you dont expect too much, you will not be disapointed.Bakung Beach Cottages makes a good base to come and go from.South Kuta beach is only 5 minute walk away and Kuta central is only 15 - 20 minute walk. The other good thing about this hotel is that it is quite and out of the way of the big resorts and alot of tourists, so you can have a nice peaceful rest when at Bakung Beach Cottages.

I visisted this hotel several times in the last 15 years and nothing has changed in that time (except the reception area). The rooms are musty and smell like moth balls but that can be easily fixed with some air freshner and throwing the moth balls in the bin. Its in a good area close to the beach and easy walk to the nice resteraunts or easy enough to catch a taxi (cheap) to where you want to go. The pool area has about 10 chairs, not much shade and the pool has not been maintained. Chiped and loose tiles that you have to be carfull so you dont cut your feet. Its good value for the money that you pay. Staff are friendly in the resteraunt not so much in the reception when we arrived.Hotel Facilities

Ok i stay here each year to start off a trip as its not too bad and in Tuban area which is nice and quiet and close to kuta reef breaks.
However i feel they could improve a few things-
Tiles in the pool are broken- causing many cuts to the unwary. also the pool bar isnt staffed.

We have stayed at Bakung twice now and I have to say you do get what you pay for. The place is clean, although worn down and a bit tatty. This hotel is value for money. It is by no means new, or fancy.. but it's close to the beach, a little bit out of Kuta and less busy in the afternoon peaks. We walked into Kuta most days, taking about 10 minutes walking along the beach. The staff were friendly. They organised a car and driver and suggested day trips for our group.

A very very good value for money hotel. We could afford 2 separate rooms for 2 adults 2 chn. which we never go for at other hotels, due to costs. Breakfasts are very important to us. No buffet here, but VG choices for an American BF always cooked nicely. Amazing to have BF incl. for this price. Down sides: modest older style rooms but clean, no ENG channels on the TV, mossies galore, always chasing staff for replacement towels.Basin water didn't go down too well. we had booked 3 rooms for 7 adults and 2 babies. the babies were put on the 3rd floor in a room with no airconditioning, barely any running water and full of moscito, they got a room move to the lower floor after 2 days and that was a little better. cats had come into the room and were in the babies bedding and toys. we checked out after only 3 days and had to pay for another hotel as the children were totaly covered in bites. the swimming pool had so many broken tiles in it that you had to be careful when you got in or out of the pool so that you didn,t get cut. the pool bar doesn,t even open. it looks like it hasn,t been open for a long time. we come to bali often and that was the worst place i have ever stayed. the whole hotel needs to be upgraded as the pictures and write-ups on this hotel are very false. the food was not much better. very disapointed that we lost all that money.Hotel Facilities

A very basic budjett hotel, suitable most probably for backpackers who just need a place to sleep in. Breakfast was poor, both in choice and quantity, and the staff working there were not at all service minded. The hotel's front fasade looked nice, but the standard and cleanliness of the rooms were poor. The TV had only indonesian channels, and the reception signals were at times very unclear and snowy. Air-con in rooms were not individual controlled, so sometimes it got too cold. Only bath towels were provided and changed everyday, but as the hotel lacked enough towels, one could be without towels from around 11 - 15 .00 as it was at the laundry. Bathroom ameneties were only two soap sachets for a weeks stay. The hotel did not have any hairdryer to lend, and when confronted with that question, they said that we could go and ask the nearest barber shop!!Hotel Facilities
