Amandari overlooks the Ayung River Gorge and was opened in 1989 in the village of Kedewatan, in the verdant hills of Ubud. It has been designed as a Balinese village, with river-stone walkways, high para -stone walls, thatched-roof suites and private garden courtyards. Balinese-style gateways front each suite and the separate villa, with an open-air lobby resembling a "wantilan" or village meeting place. Some rooms have their own pool as well as an outdoor dining bale of teak and bamboo set within a tropical garden and others come with picturesque views of the adjacent rice terraces and valley.
