The Viceroy Hotel Mysore provides a friendly, homey atmosphere to all who opt to stay here with room rates that won't break the bank. For the personal service and swish amenities you get for little money, this place is a real steal. The property is opposite the famous Mysore Palace and nearby the commercial establishments.

The Viceroy was our least favourite hotel of the 10 or so that we stayed in while travelling in India. The room had a grubby pink carpet and the interiors looked well worn. Our view was not of the palace as requested but of the broken slated roof of the shack next door. The lobby looks quite swanky but once you enter your room the standard diminishes. We booked an 'executive' room and I dread to think what a standard room is like. The air conditioning system often failed and there appeared to be a problem with power cuts in the hotel. The desk clerk was exceptionally rude and quite smug when we made requests, he was not at all helpful. The travel desk is completely useless and did not have any maps, information or taxis available at any point. When they called an external taxi firm to deliver us to our next hotel they charged a 250 rupee surcharge for them booking it for us. The breakfast was the most basic that I had during my 23 day stay in India. The restaurant toilets were disgraceful and unuseable even by Indian standards. There is no fridge in the bedrooms and no additional facilities in the hotel. The one good thing about The Viceroy is the excellent location. It is directly opposite the North side of the Maharajahs Palace and very close to the markets nearby. All of the incompetence I encountered with The Viceroy Hotel had nothing to do with Hotel Travel. Hotel Travel were excellent when I made the hotel booking and have been through out.
