Your eyes will have little time to rest while in Munnar. Everywhere you look there is another natural wonder to behold. The luscious greens of the dense mountain foliage provide the perfect backdrop for the endless wonders that can be seen in the area. Waterfalls, wildlife sanctuaries, local plantations and European architecture provide a textured sightseeing wonderland like few others.

Anaimudi
Standing at soaring height of nearly 3,000m, this is the highest peak in southern India. It stands as a spectacular backdrop for the town and can be seen from almost anywhere in the area.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
A 50-kilometre drive from Munnar will take you to this place where elephants, leopards and bears among other animals can be seen roaming free and happy.

Christ Church
This curiously Western-looking building was built in 1910 by the British settlers in Munnar. The stained-glass windows are among the most interesting features, while plaques standing in memory of British tea planters offer an insight into the history of the town.

Devikulam
This is arguably one of the most picturesque spots in the world. This tiny hill station located only 7kms from Munnar is a paradise of flora and fauna, with spanning views of the picture perfect countryside. The crystal mineral waters of Sita Devi lake, teeming with freshwater trout, provide the perfect spot for an idyllic countryside picnic.

Eravikulam National Park
After driving about half an hour north from Munnar, you will have to take a short and reasonably difficult trek to get to this park – but the effort will be worth it. The reward is 97kms of forested valley and rolling hills occupied by an array of wildlife. The ibex, lion-tailed macaque and the nilgiri tahr are among three of the most interesting creatures inhabiting the park.

Kundale Tea Plantation
A fascinating insight into the production of one of the world’s most popular drinks can be discovered at the Kundale Tea Plantation. Watch and learn the process of how tea is made starting from the plant you see covering the landscape all the way to the tea cup. Sundays the local planters gather together, making it an ideal time to visit. The lake located on the plantation is the perfect spot for an afternoon picnic and calming rest.

Marayoor
A fascinating location with great historical value, the area of Marayoor, situated approximately 40kms from Munnar, features India’s only naturally growing sandalwood forest, caves with ancient murals, and remnants from the settlers of the Stone Age who inhabited the area.

Neelakurunji flowers
No special tour will need to be taken to see this Munnar attraction. But if you are planning a trip solely to view the spectacular blue blooms, which cover the entire mountainside, you will have to wait until 2018 as the neelakurunju only blooms every 12 years.
Pothamedu
This is the location from where a number of the area’s plantations can be viewed from a single point. Coffee plantations, tea plants and cardamom fields are all here to behold. Trekking and hiking are also popular activities in the area, and with the surrounding views it is little wonder why.

Top Station
This is the perfect lookout spot for aerial views of the lower valleys and smaller mountain tops. The point can be reached in about 40 minutes from Munnar centre. It is said that the station was once the top point connecting to two other stations, called middle and low, by rope.
Visitors can head out into the countryside for a number of exciting activities. The spectacular surroundings ensure that any activity always seems that little bit more special. Whether you simply pack a picnic and head for one of the many nearby waterfalls or take to the hills for a full-on trek, you will be thrilled by the wealth of opportunities that Munnar has to offer.

Indulge in water sports at Muttupetty. One of the best places to partake in various water sports, this lake and dam also has a Swiss Livestock Project close by. Children will be thrilled by a visit to see the cattle after a refreshing swim or boat ride on the lake.
Pack a picnic for Meenuli. This is an excellent spot for trekking or picnicking and features an enormous rock with evergreen forests in year-round bloom sitting atop it. The panoramic views from the rock’s summit stretch as far Ernakulam.
Relax in Chithirapuram. A quaint hill station nestled in a quiet corner of the hills features buildings dating back to the time of its colonial settlers. Located about 10kms from Munnar, it is a charming hideout with breathtaking natural beauty.
Swim at Nyayamakad. This is the place to go for a refreshing natural water park only 10kms from Munnar. Cascading waterfalls, trickling streams and still lakes are all part of this romantic setting, which can be enjoyed by young and old alike. Swim, trek, picnic or just simply relax to the sound of the waters.

Trek in Attukal. This is one of the best destinations for trekking in the area. The long trekking trails offer panoramic views of the rolling hills and other natural offerings of the area.
Yell out at Echo Point. This little spot along the road to Top Station boasts an interesting natural quirk where adults and children alike delight in calling out random words and hearing them returned by echo.
