Situated 5kms from the town, Khajuraho Airport is the main gateway to this small but popular tourist destination. The airport serves domestic flights only, maintaining connections with Delhi, Varanasi and Kathmandu. Alternatively, it’s possible to fly to Jhani and then make a 6-hour rail journey or a 5-hour road journey to Khajuraho; the latter route is not recommended, however, as the road is notoriously bad between the two destinations. Flights to and from Khajuraho Airport are served by Indian Airlines and Jet Airways; each airline providing a single daily flight along each route operated. Both Jhansi and Khajuraho airports are small single-terminal facilities offering a limited selection of services and amenities.

It’s possible to reach Khajuraho by train with the state-owned railway network providing connections from a variety of destinations, although the most convenient routes are those going via either Jhansi on the Delhi-Bangalore main line or Satna on the Allahabad-Mumbai main line. From Jhansi, the journey takes about 6 hours.
Buses also provide connections with Khajuraho although they are not really recommended as the condition of both roads and buses are bad, making for some fairly hellish journeys. Still, if you are on a budget and are a hardy character, then you can reach the town in about 5 hours from Jhansi or 3 hours from Satna. Besides these destinations, the bus network provides connections between Khajuraho and Harpalpur, Mahoba, Chhatarpur, Bhopal, Sagar, Jabalpur, Indore, Gwalior, Agra, Panna, Varanasi and Allahabad.
Once in the town, public transport is somewhat redundant as the town is small enough to get around in on foot or by bicycle, the latter being available for hire at a variety of shops. Rickshaws are also available for those visitors not wishing to exert themselves; while taxis can also be hired for destinations out of town such as Panna National Park or Ajaygarh Fort.
