Jodhpur Airport (JDH) is a small facility that is serviced only by domestic flights, and is located approximately 5kms from the city centre. Flight arrangements can be made at the Indian Airlines Office, which is found on Airport road, between Jodhpur and the airport: it’s open from 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 16:30 daily. Regularly scheduled flights arrive at the Jodhpur facility from Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai and Udaipur. For airport and flight information, the number is: +91 291 512 530.

The public transport system within the city of Jodhpur isn’t great, and involves mostly older city buses that are crowded, not always in good repair and operate on an irregular schedule. In addition to the buses, you’ll find auto-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws and taxis to be readily available. The narrow lanes typical of the inner section of the walled city are best negotiated by auto-rickshaw, bicycle or motor scooter.

A good option is to hire a car – or even better, a car with a driver – making it possible to see not only the attractions in the city, but also those that are located within reasonable driving distance from Jodhpur. Driving here, as in much of India, tends to be chaotic, and roadside services aren’t always available – making it all the more important to have someone driving and responsible for the vehicle, particularly if your plans take you into the desert. Sightseeing tours are available, organised by travel agents and many hotels, and typically involve buses and the services of a tour guide.
