Cochin International Airport is located approximately 25kms north of the city centre at Nedumbassery. Most of the international flights from the airport operate to Middle Eastern countries, including destinations like Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Dubai. The main foreign carriers are Emirates, Kuwait Airways, Oman Airways and Silk Air; while domestic flights are run by Air India and Indian Airlines.

Auto-rickshaw is one of the most fun and interesting ways to explore the city’s cultural phenomenon. Three-wheeled, black-and-yellow auto-rickshaws can be found all over the city, waiting on street corners to pick up interested customers. Often drivers will not only be able to take you the city’s premier sights but they will also be able to give you information about them in pretty good English.

Despite being one of the most common modes of transport for locals, bus is not the best choice for foreign visitors. If your travel budget allows, you may want to consider hiring auto-rickshaws and taxis instead. At peak hours the buses are overly crowded and pick-pocketing is a major concern.

Taxis can be found throughout the city and at the arrivals terminal at the airport. They often charge per kilometre but CIAL offers prepaid cars for hire on the basis of the destination. These prepaid taxis are also a good option for daily hire to chauffer you to the top sights in the area. Car hire is another alternative for a bit of adventure. It gives you the freedom of movement but the road systems or lack thereof can often be tricky to negotiate. Hiring a car with driver is recommended.
