Less travelled then ever-popular Delhi and Mumbai, Ahmedabad is a thriving northwestern Indian city of more than five million people that dominates business and culture in the state of Gujarat close to Pakistan.
Most of the attractions in Ahmedabad are of a cultural nature, including temples and museums. In the past few years, however, things have improved with the introduction of the increasingly popular Science City, a venue with plenty to amuse and educate children of all ages. Additionally, the zoo is a popular favourite among kids, as is Kankaria lake.
With its mix of Hindu and Islamic holidays as well as traditional Gujarati and Indian festivals, Ahmedabad is a destination that features regular special events, some of which are also unique to the city, such as the visually impressive Kite Festival in which the climax is a hectic kite fight. One of the most intriguing Gujarati festivals is Navratri, a nine-day event that sees hours of tireless dancing by local inhabitants when the women come to the fore.
The largest city in Gujarat has a wealth of sights, which makes it all the more surprising that it doesn’t receive as many visitors as other cities in India of a smaller stature. Aside from the Gandhi references in Ahmedabad, there is a wealth of startling temples to visit, many featuring striking designs with acute attention to detail. Many people may be daunted by the sheer number of temples to visit here but even if you are not a fan of shrines and mosques, it is difficult not to be stirred by some of the architecture Ahmedabad has to offer.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is not yet one of the major gateways into India, but its connections are increasing rapidly and development of the terminal’s infrastructure has been made a priority. Daily flights are available on a large number of domestic routes including those to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata along with Chennai, Bangalore and Goa.

It was actually one of my favorite hotels during a 2 week business trip in India. Great value for the money and loved the location for business travel - close to the airport was easy and good! ...
