Budapest is the country’s capital city and is a busy urban centre offering all of the 21st century’s modern conveniences as well as sufficient traditional characteristics to remind you that you are in an eastern European country. The city is not only Hungary’s centre for business and politics but also an arts hub, with some of the greatest cultural venues on the continent to be found here. Budapest sits in the middle of the country and can be reached easily from any of Hungary’s other major cities.
Budapest Amusement Park
Fun with a definite leaning toward the traditional and old-fashioned can be found at Budapest’s Amusement Park. For over 50 years, the facility has been providing family fun with its dodgem cars, merry-go-round and classic wooden rollercoaster. The park enjoys a convenient location close to a number of other attractions including the zoo and several museums. Phone: +36 1 363 8310
Revolution Day: on the 15th of the month, Hungarians celebrate the anniversary of the uprising against Austrian rule in 1848. This is a national holiday with public celebrations held in many cities.
Budapest
The country’s capital is a typical bustling metropolis and a centre for business, culture and tourism. The respective cities of Buda and Pest were officially united to form a single urban area back in 1873 and since then the unified capital has become known as one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. There is an abundance of sightseeing attractions on offer, among which the most popular include the Royal Palace within which is the National Gallery; the Historical Museum of Budapest, Matthias Church, the Music Museum and the Fisherman’s Bastion.
Budapest Ferihegy Airport is the chief gateway to the country serving flights to and from a large number of locations including major European cities and important international destinations. A significant number of the flights into and out of the airport are operated by national carrier, Malev. The airport has three terminals, entitled Terminal 1, Terminal 2A and Terminal 2B. Terminal 1 is the most modern facility and terminals 2A and 2B are separate facilities but connected to one another.
