The booking was made, then confirmed in a very short time. As this was the first time I have used HotelTravel.com I was a little concerned, however, everything was just fine. We were oringinally given a room next door to the elevator, which was to noisy, however, I requested another room and was given on immediately. It was spacious, clean and very quiet. We used the pool and found the hotel provided all the towels, combs etc. We were close to public transport and central to all shoping etc. The rate that HotelTravel got for us was excellent value for money. I am going to use HotelTravel again...

Very frustrating experience, no non-smoking room on arrival.Eventually room found, not good. After more discussion, room found to our satisfaction. Mattresses added. Breakfast is below par. Concierge good.

Location is a bit congested due to several pubs running along the Lochart road. One may not like the area because of too many woman hanging out in Lochart road bec of the PUBS operations.

I had a great stay at this hotel. The rooms are very clean, spacious and quiet. It's located about 2 blocks from a subway station as well, so it's easy to get around the city from here. At night time, the area can be a bit seedy, but it's not bad enough that I'd discourage a family from staying there. It's one of the cheaper hotels I found, but the overall quality is very good.

my main problem was that the hotel had closed its pool, a seasonal thing, but this was not advertised. I would not have booked this hotel had i known. breakfast was very expensive, possibly a hong kong problem rather than this particular hotel.no view, no movie channels on the tv

Hotel is located along a row of restaurants and bars. It's a short walk to the Wan Chai MTR station. Room is quite small along with the beds. Cable TV channel choices are limited. Staff are helpful and attentive. Fitness centre and swimming pool are located in an annex building so not so convenient for guests. Good value, though, for HK standards.

The beds are not comfortable at all.... the mattresses are very stiff as if you are sleeping on the floor... and the pillows are not comfortable for sleeping as well... sometimes, the noise/musics from the pubs surrounding the hotel can be heard, even though i stayed on the 15th floor.

The room looked old and dirty, for the price of $200.00 per night, they should give better rooms. All other hotels I stayed on my trip were much superior to this one, in size and service and cleanliness. The room at this hotel was by far the worst of the hotels I stayed over 3 weeks travelling in Asia, most of the other hotels were below the cost of this one and with much better size rooms, amenities, services, TV choices and cleanliness. I have stayed at this hotel many times, but this time I am disappointed for the charge and what they gave me.

Well located for bars and restaurants of Wan Chai, although not an ideal area for a family, given the number of 'dancers' around, and accompanying ex-pats. The rooms are fine - although we have stayed twice before and the room this time was looking a little tired. Bathrooms could do with an overhaul, I think.

There are many pubs along the street. Not safe for girls who came back late to hotel or out for supper. The staffs were not sufficient enough at servicing the hotel guests at a time. Many times simple requests were ignored,"left ear in right ear out". Not polite. Waited too long for check-in. Rooms were not ready even after check-out time, around 2.00pm.

The location of hotel is superb! It is situated at WanChai and is within walking distance to MTR station, public bus-stops and also the stops for old-fashion trams. It makes moving around the island very easy. This hotel is also surrounded by eateries, restuarants and pubs. Though you may read comments like this place is known as "Susie Wong's district" but we found it rather safe to move around. Hotel staff are friendly and efficient. Cleaniness of hotel is good too. The only thing we found it inconvenient is that the pool is situated in the next building and we have to walk across a road to the pool. But no hassle as the walk to the building is about 30 ft and road is rather quiet. It'll be good if hotel can provide pool or gym user with bathrobe. Overall - worth staying!

Location convenient because near Convention/Exhibition Center where I attended Jewellery Fair. Had some problem with the airconditioning, warm temp and not very comfortable. I told front desk but not much was done to improve the situation. The room was small considering it was their deluxe room located on the upper floor. The gym opens at a later hour on weekends. We checked out breakfast buffet and were not impressed. Aiconditioning was not comfortably cool, kind of warm. Reported it to frony desk but not much was done really. Nice location if you have business in the area, but not much in terms of shopping. accesible to all forms of public transport, convenient! Lots of bars near the area so sometimes area can be noisy

Staff and concierge were very helpful. Easy to take bus from airport to hotel and back. Good location if you want to be close to the bars and nightlife, which I did. Fun to just walk the streets at night. Would be different if you were with family. Hotel room was fine. Hot water and good water pressure, bed was fine. Wake up call on time. I'm glad I picked this hotel for my short stay. (I only stayed in Hong Kong one night on a lay over). Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice waiting area where I waited a bit for the airport bus to pick me up. I was on the backside and had no trouble with noise. Good location if you want to be near the nightlife. Easy to take bus to and from airport.

Executive room has basically same size and facilities as standard rooms with minimal additional benefits but charged 80% more. Executive room should come with daily newspaper and a welcoming fruit platter; these were not delivered. This hotel situates right in the middle of red light district and this should be made known to travellers at time of booking. However, it is central to everything and proximity to Wanchai MTR is most convenient.

No safety box in the room, no drawers to keep cloths. For the price, they could give more....I have stayed in this hotel many times, over 16 times, this was the worst of all the rooms I have stayed. The front desk people, did an average service, I stayed in 8 different hotels during my trip to Asia and compared to other hotels, this was on the low end. Compared to all the hotels I stayed on my trip, this was over priced. Other hotels were more expensive, but they gave you much better service and rooms.

Though the room is quite small, it is clean and comfortable to stay in.No outside noise was heard from the "bars & pubs" below although we stayed on the 9th floor(as requested).Bathroom amenities were adequate just that the toilet paper was too thin. Hotel staffs were friendly but not too "updated". We tried to ask the reception staffs on whether there's any update on 1 of the HK famous singer (Jacky Cheung) concert was cancelled but they can claimed that there was no concert held at all! Hotel was very conveniently situated among local restaurants and 7-Eleven Stores which really was a plus point. The pubs and bars along the roads (with ladies sitting outside waiting for patrons) are not a "threat" to road users. They do not bother us at all unless you are the single guys.A 5 mins walk will lead us to the Wanchai MTR station which is very convenient. The only minus point is that there isn't much shopping to be done there. Have to take a train down to Causeway Bay or Mongkok to shop.

The Wharney is great value for money. Rooms in HK tend to be tiny, our double was fine, the triple was a very tight fit. Both rooms were clean and in good condition. The kids enjoyed having a pool and a gym. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. I loved the location, MTR and tram stops not far, plenty of night life all around the hotel (which is what Wanchai is famous for anyway!), but not just the ratty places, there are plenty of nice bars and pubs too.

The picture of Wharney Hotel displayed is mis-leading. The hotel does not look one bit like that! Infact it is smacked between several dodgy-looking pubs. However, the hotel interior, staff and experience were very good. Even though I didn't feel 100% safe walking the streets from the MTR to the hotel, once in the hotel, I feel safe and comfortable.

As others have noted, the street outside the hotel houses some "bars" that are active from afternoon until after midnight. However, the area is quite safe, and the noise level is minimal. In short, don't let the immediate neighborhood dissuade you from staying here - this is a great hotel, at a great price, a short stroll from the tram line and the MTR.

Wharney Hotel is located a few minutes walk from Wanchai MTR Station. I find it very convenient for visitors like us. The hotel staff are friendly and polite. However, I would not recommend it to family with small kids due to the nearby bars and night clubs that you will pass by between the hotel and the MTR station. The bathrooms are quite small and the fixtures are rather old.

The hotel is a clean, safe space and in a great location (well, for most part anyways). It is very close to the Wan Chai MTR station and is connected to most places of interest in a quick and easy way. The one point of slight discomfort is that the road it is located on turns into an unsavory area in the evening. There was no real problem with this last aspect, in that the area seems perfectly safe. However, the notional discomfort is a factor to consider. The rooms in the hotel are very small, although they are comfortable and clean. The staff is courteous, if only just so. The one cup of coffee I ordered to the room was cold. All in all, a well located budget hotel that gives you a sense of being one.

This was the 2nd time I've stayed at the Wharney Hotel and loved it! Has possibly the best location if you're into nightlife, 20 - 30 bars/clubs within 300 meter radius. Although it is located in a rather seedy area, the hotel itself is excellent, well served by taxis, shuttles and the MTR Wan Chai station nearby. The hotel rates are far better than others on the mainland, which tend to attract vacationers. A good base from which to explore Hong Kong. I would definitely stay there again.

Minor irritations : Even when the air-conditioning was apparently turned off, there seemed to be a separate system still blowing cool air into the room which made the room cold (not great when you are trying to fight a cold infection) . Toilet paper was too thin (not nice) . The curtains did not fully close/cover over the window ends. This let gaps of light come in at the head-end of the bed (which woke me up occasionally on the very sunny mornings) .

Good location, but expensive from my perspective. 20HKD/hour for internet usage, wireless only. My laptop couldn't use their wireless for some reason. Toilet makes a hideous noise for about 30-45 seconds after refilling the tank - like some sort of electric pump. Probably due to the pink porecelain fixtures. 1950's anyone? Avoid the tour desk. It only sells Grayline tours (terrible), and only at full retail prices.

This hotel is located in a convenient part of Wan Chai. Transportation by taxi makes it easy to get where ever you need to go. The rooms are a little small but I believe that is standard at many Hong Kong hotels. It served my purposes for a quick 3 day stay. The carpets were a little dirty, that would be the only thing that might have been in better condition.

The Hotel is about 5 min to Wanchai subway. But along the way to the hotel are many bars with ladies sitting outside. Not that safe for lady walking alone. Opposite the hotel has a chinese restaurant with good dimsum. The room isn't very big but it is clean. Will try Hoteltravel.com for future oversea accomodation as it meets our request of giving us 2 twin room connected.

It's too expensive when you want to have extra bed when you walk in. The price is too high. I suggest opening a new room is better than having a new extra bed. You should have a good planning before departure to the hotel.

The price, value for the money, and location was tough to beat on Hong Kong island. Minutes walk from Wan Chai train terminal. Lots of nice pubs and restaurants close by. The only complaint was the go-go bars near by, if you are a man walking alone they hassle you, but if you have a woman with you they don't bother you. Otherwise excellent location, and very cheap for Hong Kong. The room size was quite small for an average hotel but about normal or large for Hong Kong. The bed was quite hard, which is ok for short visits, but for long ones it might be a problem. Especially if you are not used to that kind of thing. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel!!!!!

Very clean, reasonable size 'budget' rooms. Right in the centre of things - very handy to Hong Kong's excellent public transport system. Breakfast not included in my deal but many food outlets within 200m of the hotel. My only complaint is that the beds were insufferably hard - not just hard but keep-waking-you-up-to change-positions hard - even when the duvet was put under the bottom sheet. Otherwise well satisfied.

I liked the wharney hotel, close to public transport and restaurants. Not much tourist information located at hotel though. Be warned red light district at night.

Although the room is quite small, it is clean and quiet. The staffs are friendly, professional and able to communicate in English. I stayed in floor 12, non-smoking floor and wasn't able to smell any smoke and hear anything from the street. This is some of the best parts of the hotel. Transportation is easy with the hotel location - bus, taxi and MTR are all within 1-2 blocks. For those people who like to go clubing, this hotel is even better as this hotel is located right at the main red-light area.

The Wharney Hotel makes an excellent base in Hong Kong. It is situated in the heart of the downtown area of Wanchai on Hong Kong Island, right in the middle of the entertainment district, close to good restaurants, bars and pubs. The streets in the vicinity can be very livety in the evenings. Great shopping areas ( both malls and street markets) are just a few minutes walk away. The hotel is handily placed for public transport e.g. MTR (underground railway) and buses and there's a taxi stand right outside the front door. The standard of service in the hotel is first-rate : the staff are very friendly and efficient. The basement bar, "The Canny Man", is a great place to have a drink and light meals and again the staff are excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending The Wharney for business and tourist travellers. On my two stays I didn't see any children staying there and I would not regard it as a family-oriented hotel.

The best point about Wharney hotel is it's convenient location to public transports; 5 min. walk to subway station and about 10 min. to the Wanchai ferry. And a shuttle bus from Hongkong station takes you right to the front of the hotel. As for the room I find it quite clean, and the room size was small but fair for a 3 star hotel single room. One problem was that the fan in the bathroom does not get turned off, and it was loud enough to hear even with the bathroom door closed. The streets turns to red light district at night, but it wasn't that dangerous or anything, ok for a woman alone to walk by.

This hotel is typical of Hong Kong hotels - small rooms. This is an older hotel - due to the high humidity and the pollution from smoker, you will see some wear and tear in the rooms. That aside, it is ideally located near MTR transport and is a good value. Because it is in the red-light district of Hong Kong, it is reasonably priced. The strip bars are fairly low-key. We stayed with our two kids and had no problems. Causeway Bay is one stop away and is ideal shopping, but the hotels are more expensive. We like the island better for getting a real feel for old Hong Kong as opposed to the more suburban area of Kowloon which is more spread out. The price as well as easy access to the Subway MTR makes this our favorite hotel on the island...

The Wharney Hotel is a good value hotel in a very convenient area. Closer to the Subway and plenty of restaurants and bars in the area. It is the 'red light' district but it is not seedy at all. Try the restaurant across the street. The one with all the ducks and pork hanging in the window. It was good and cheap. Recommended for the various smoked and BBQ'd meats. Our room seemed to have been updated recently (19th floor). It was clean but quite small. No shampoo or soaps, small thin towels and a very hard bed. But we were pleased considering the room rate of $72/night. There is a room safe, limited cable TV and a desk. We recommend it for anyone that doesn't mind a very hard bed. For the money it was ok. Certainly only a 3 star hotel but at the price I think a value compared to it's peers.

The staff was really friendly. There is limited facilities within hotel , so are the TV channels. The size of room is not that great, just ok. However, during day time, facilities around the hotel is ok. But for ladies, got to be a little more careful, as the walk from the MTR back to the hotel, there are sleazy pubs along the way. One more bonus point, airport express service is available to this hotel. So for the price, it is still value for money. Although there are sleazy places at night, but the room is really cheap for Wan Chai area.

We were surprised to find that the street it was on turned into the red light district at night, with noisy night clubs, although we did not feel in danger at any time. Luckily our room was on the back side of the hotel and very quiet at night. The room was very clean and comfortable and the street was 'normal 'by day.

The room was comfortable and reasonably clean, but rather "tired" and in need of refurbishment. The plumbing was less than perfect, the bathroom floor ending up wet whenever we used the basin. Noise from neigbouring rooms carried through the party walls at night. However the location was good, the staff extremely pleasant, and the price very reasonable.

It's budget friendly, near MRT and just 10 minute walk to Star Ferry Terminal. Since it's in the center of the red light district, you have to be careful in visiting the numerous bars outside the hotel. Rooms and bathroom are clean but there are few channels on cable.

the hotel is close to main transport systems of H.K and it helps a great deal to be well located if you are in a city that doesn´t speak your language. The shuttle to airport stops there too and is very handy after some crazy shopping (I got new year sales). There is a tour desk to find all you need the first day,as well as small convenience stores nearby.Do not worry with the looks of the neighbourhood ( go-gos, night clubs), everyone is friendly afterall!

We just returned from a trip to Hong Kong (January 5-14th 2006) and we (my husband, 16 month old daughter and I) and my parents booked rooms at the Wharney Hotel in Wan Chai for the duration of the time. This was by far the cheapest Hotel we could find on Hong Kong Island which also allowed for and did not charge extra for an infant. Since we were on a tight budget, we were delighted to find a decent hotel in such a convienient area! For the most part, the Wharney exceeded our expectations in every way. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful, curteouse and was especially accomodating to our needs with a young child. Our rooms were clean and cosy but still had some space to spare after our 3 bags of luggage and baby "stuff." The bed mattresses were very firm and comfortable and the bathroom and tea area had all the ameneties. The only complaint we had was noise. The Wharney is surrounded by bars an night clubs and often the parties got a little wild after midnight.

A few comments I want to mention: On wednesday nights, it can be very noisy outside, due to the ladies night specials at the nearby Wanchai bars (very convenient to lots of nightlife, which is good and bad...), there were a lot of drunk people on the street directly across from the hotel until 2 or 3am, (until the police came and chased them away). From the higher floors the noise isn't too loud, but its still loud enough to hear. Also the lower floors that have been renovated are much much nicer than the rooms that have not yet been renovated. If at all possible ask for a renovated room. When I stayed in an unrenovated room (19th floor), there was only pay internet access available (although the hotel bar in the basement had free wireless). When I stayed in a renovated room (12th floor), I was able to pick up someone's wireless service and get online (not sure if it was the hotel or someone else's, but it worked).

I liked the location the best. However, as a business hotel it was not the best as getting connected to the internet was convoluted and annoying. The air condition also would switch off during the day which meant you had to leave the room by a certain time. There should just be a connector port and one just has to pay for the connection to be activated.

I am going to use HotelTravel again for my next trip.

The main reason I have choosen to stay in this hotel is because of the close distance to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, where my company exhibited in July. It was merely 10-15 mins walking distance and only a street away to the nearest MTR station. For us on a business, this hotel met my needs not only to stay close to the exhibition venue but also for leisure purpose, where we can just take the MTR train to the shopping paradise. Customer service was excellant too. On our last day of exhibition, we are also checking-out of the hotel in the morning. There was only me and my assistant but we got 2 big suitcases and 1 big exhibition carton. We were facing great difficulties getting to the exhibition center as we will need to climb up stairs and pass over an overhead bridge to get there. As I was consulting with the staff over at the reception desk for the most direct routh without any stairs or overhead bridge, the staff at the concierge counter approached me and offered to help.

A nice little hotel ideally located a 5 minutes walk from the star ferry at Wanchai pier, near the bus line to Aberdeen and Victorias Peak, a short taxi ride to Lan Kwai Fong .small rooms, but big enough for 2 people, who goes to HK to stay in his/her room anyway . ask for the upper floor rooms as the lower ones can be dark. try to avoid the rooms near the elevator and it is as quiet as a hotel can be. a good value for money
