The largest island in the Marianas archipelago, Guam offers pristine, sandy beaches, warm and friendly people and great resorts and hotels. Founded by westerners in the 16th century, the island has been infused with a Spanish inclination to go along with remnants of its past indigenous cultures. Situated in the Philippine Sea, Guam is only 8-12 kilometres wide and about 55 kilometres long, making for a compact vacation destination where one can find a lot of outdoor activities to enjoy, including hiking, climbing, cycling, and trekking. At sea, there is no end to the marine pursuits one can enjoy. Sailing, power-boating, deep-sea fishing, jet skiing, parasailing, snorkelling and diving are all widely available all around the island.
Tourists flock to Tumon Bay, site of the main tourist centre, where fine dining and great shopping can be found. The capital city of Hagatna has hundreds of historic, Spanish-styled buildings, offering visitors a glimpse of the island’s colonial past, which stretches to its finding by Ferdinand Magellan. Located south of Japan, Guam is a favourite of Japanese holiday-makers, given that it’s far closer then Hawaii, another prime Japanese holiday destination. Guam boasts a splendid choice of five-star hotels and fabulous resorts, but be sure to book early for the best selection.

Guam is the largest island of the Marianas archipelago. Popular with Japanese tourists and American Navy, the island is cosmopolitan and energetic. The capital, Hagåtña, has an array of historic Spanish buildings, while just up the coast is Tumon Bay, the main tourist centre. Guam has sun, sand and wilderness, although the real draw for tourists who come here is the fabulous duty-free shopping.

Activities in Guam are largely based on the water. Many of the island’s hotels have programmes and activities for their young guests and there are also water parks, beach clubs, attractions and entertainment venues that provide plenty of options for kids as well.
