International Transport

Air
Guam is served by several major airlines connecting the island with cities in Asia, the US and beyond. Virgin Atlantic has a daily service to Tokyo, where passengers can make connections to Guam. Other airlines providing regularly scheduled service include All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Japan Air Lines, Korean Air and Northwest Airlines. Flight time from London to Guam is approximately 14 hours, 30 minutes. No direct flights link Guam to the US mainland, routing through Hawaii instead.

Antonio B Won Pat International Airport (GUM) is a 10 minute drive from the main hotel area in Tumon and 15 minutes from the centre of Hagatna. Airport facilities include a public lounge (the Oasis Café located near Gate 8), international food and beverage outlets, duty-free shopping, newsstands, currency exchange services and ATMs.

Car hire companies represented at the airport include: Avis, Budget, Hertz, National and Nissan. Most hotels provide transfer services for their guests by prior arrangement, and taxis are readily available.

There is sufficient parking at the airport, although it is adviseable to book in advance to avoid being left without a space as the car park does fill up during peak season.

Sea
Apra Harbour is Micronesia’s principal port and a port of call for a number of operators, including Kyowa, Daiwa, Micronesia Transport, American President and Sea-Land Services. Princess Cruise Lines features Guam on its schedule.

Domestic Transport

Air
Air service is provided to neighbouring islands, but as Guam has only one commercial airport, there are no scheduled domestic air services.

Bus
Several private companies operate buses for shopping and tours, making scheduled runs that include stops at the Guam Premier Outlets, KMART, the Micronesia Mall and other selected points. Open-air single and double-decker Guhan trolleys and large enclosed busses stop at most major hotels and well-marked bus stops along the routes. Gray Line Guam also operates shuttles to Chamorro Village, the Fish Eye Marine Park, Hagatna Shopping Center and Two Lovers Point. One-day and seven-day Gray Line Guam passes are available.

The Guam Mass Transit Authority operates buses on nine routes, connecting most villages on the island. Service frequency varies from every 30 minutes to every two hours, depending on the route. Services are provided Monday through Saturday. There’s no bus service on Sundays, public holidays or evenings after 19:30.

Car
As public bus service on Guam is quite limited, most residents travel using their own cars. Many visitors choose to tour Guam with a hired car. Although it is not a large island and many attractions are located within walking distance of Tumon hotels, many historical and cultural landmarks, quiet beaches and scenic spots are scattered around the island and a car is really the best way to get around. A number of hotels have car hire agencies on the premises, and you can book a vehicle when making hotel reservations. Several major US car hire companies are represented at the airport, in the arrivals hall. Most companies accept major credit cards; and a valid US or international driver’s license is required.

Taxi
Taxis are usually available and reliable, and are typically used only for shorter trips, as they can be quite costly for longer trips or sightseeing. There are usually taxis waiting outside the airport arrivals area, at all hotels and also the major shopping centres. All taxis have regulated meters, but if you do choose to travel longer distance by taxi, you may be able to negotiate the rate.
