The people of Guam enjoy a good party and for several months of the year, villages in the southern region hold their annual fiestas. Features include traditional events, hot pepper eating contests and carabao racing, amid an all-out street party in the area around the San Isidro church. Visitors are encouraged to attend and enjoy the party as well as to sample some of the delicious Chamorro food and beer.

July

Liberation Day
On 21 July the entire island celebrates its liberation from the enemy occupation of WWII. Ceremonies, memorials and festive events are held throughout the island during the week leading up to the big day itself; with local carnivals, feasting and general celebrating being the order of the day. On Liberation Day, a colourful parade down Marine Corps Drive in Hagatna is the focal point. Elaborately-decorated floats are built by local villagers and the floats are accompanied by costumed marchers in an atmosphere enriched by music, smoke from all the cooking and the sounds of fireworks. A Liberation Day Queen is crowned, and the festivities continue into the night.
