Something of a sightseers dream destination, Zakynthos is brimming with sites and structures of aesthetic, cultural and historic value, presenting opportunities for varied and fascinating tour itineraries. The churches of Agios Dionysios and Agios Nikolaos should not be missed while visiting the Venetian Fortress should also be a priority.

Blue Caves
The famous Blue Caves, which are located at the northern tip of Zakynthos, were discovered in 1897 but only since the introduction of tourism on the island have they become a notable local feature. The vivid blue hues presented by the combination of the sea water and the cave’s rock formations are stunning and offer great photo opportunities.
Church of Agios Dionysios (Saint Dennis)
One of the few buildings to survive the earthquakes in the 1950s, this lovely old church is famous for containing the earthly remains of Saint Dennis, the island’s patron saint. The church’s interior is suitably impressive, featuring magnificent works of religious art as well as ornate silverwork.

Church of Saint Nikolaos on the Mole
Located on Solomou Square, this Venetian church dates to 1561 and is the only surviving structure of its era in the area. The church is best known perhaps for the fact that Saint Dionysios once served there. The lavishly decorated interior of the building is a splendid sight to behold.

Marathonisi
This small island located opposite Keri Bay is uninhabited and therefore its natural beauty has not been disturbed at all by human influences. A short boat trip brings you to the island and once there, the lush green flora, tranquil sandy beaches, caves and rock formations offer the ambience you would expect from an island paradise.

Solomou Square
One of the island’s focal points, Solomou Square, is located in Zakynthos Town and is a popular meeting place for locals on warm summer evenings. A splendid statue of the Greek national poet Dionysius Solomos dominates the centre of the square, while around its perimeter are famous buildings such as the Cultural Centre of Zakynthos, the Byzantine Museum of Zakynthos and the Church of Saint Nikolaos on the Mole.

Venetian Fortress
Located atop a hill in the small town of Bohali, the Venetian Fortress is a structure that was built on the site that formerly housed Psofida, the island’s ancient acropolis. The building dates to the mid-1600s and is well preserved, despite several earthquakes during its existence. From the top of the castle, the views across Zakynthos Town are excellent
