Most people come to Corfu for the beaches and to kick back for a couple of weeks. There are many different beach styles on the island, ranging from 24-hour drinking to quiet sunbathing. Meanwhile, Corfu Town is a sightseer’s paradise and is ideal for escaping the beach scene and taking in urban Greece.

Benitses
Lying just south of Corfu Town, Benitses is the main resort on your way south towards Kavos. From its humble traditional fishing village origins, Benitses has blossomed for better or worse over the last 20 years to become Corfu’s most happening place for partygoers. The beaches and bays here are scenic and Benitses village has bags of character, although most visitors come for the nightlife.

Corfu Beaches and Resorts
As well as busy Kavos and Benitses there are a good number of beaches and resorts to choose from, depending on your disposition. If you don’t fancy the noise of the south then perhaps head west to Agios Gordis, with its pretty beach and eating, or nearby Paliokastritsa or Roda in the north for a bit of in-between.

Corfu Nightlife
Corfu was one of the forerunners of the 18-30 ‘package holiday’. Benitses and Kavos are the most popular resort towns here and although the beaches aren’t that special, the associated video bars, pubs and cafés are what most come for. For a spot of the local nightlife, head to busy Corfu Town to check out the Greek tavernas, or to the north and west of the island for quieter resorts.

Corfu Town (Kerkira)
Located on the central east coast of Corfu, Corfu Town is a big attraction for those into culture. The old part of town is very pleasant and is one of narrow, cobblestoned alleys and balconied abodes, and the island’s best museums are here. Corfu Town also has a seaside promenade and a busy esplanade as well as a burgeoning café culture and the island’s best eating.

Kalypso Star
The Kalypso Star is a glass-bottomed boat that takes in the island’s diverse marine life, cruising from the Old Port in Corfu Town daily. The glass-bottom lets you see the creatures and flora of the deep without getting wet and you can even go on a night trip during the high season.

Kanoni
Kanoni is essentially a terrace and a viewpoint just to the south of Corfu Town that used to be home to a cannon. It overlooks two islets in the bay, the closest of which is connected by a causeway (a 10-minute stroll from Kanoni). The main attraction here is the Monastery of Vlakherna, while the other islet, Mouse Island (Pondikonisi), is accessible by boat and features a 13th-century chapel and nice walking.

Old Fort (Paleo Frourio)
The Old Fort in Corfu Town dates to the Eighth century and is a prominent landmark. The fort has seen many skirmishes and battles over the ages as well as one or two useful additions. These include a moat in the 16th century, courtesy of the Venetians, and a British church in the 19th century. Views from the port are outstanding.
