Frankfurt's modern roots began in the 8th century with a wonderful legend involving the King of the Franks, King Charlemagne, and a miraculous escape from the Saxons. His retreat blocked by the Main River, Charlemagne watched a deer cross the river at a ford (furt). He and his army followed the deer and escaped certain slaughter. To commemorate his good fortune he built Frankfurt at the site of the ford, starting with a stone church and palace at the site of today's Dom.
One of Frankfurt’s most appealing and interesting neighbourhoods to explore is the Alt-Sachsenhausen. This original district has a distinctly traditional Frankfurt feel to it so it’s no surprise that this is also the best place in the city to hunt for antiques and art. Every Saturday the Frankfurt Flea Market appears along the Main River, offering visitors endless stalls of trash and treasures to sift through.
New Year's Concert: to celebrate the arrival of a new year, the city’s Alte Oper hosts its annual music concert featuring classical music. Seasonal favourites are performed by the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.
Frankfurt’s most significant art gallery features representatives of nearly every European school of painting. From French Impressionists to Dutch masters, art fans will find plenty to mull over in the Städel. Of course, there is also a great collection of German artists from the 16th century onwards.
Travellers can also easily reach Frankfurt by train, bus or car. The city's main train station, the Hauptbahnhof, is the busiest railway station in Europe and contains a full range of passenger facilities. About 1,600 trains come and go throughout the day to every major city in Germany and most neighbouring countries. Deutsche Bahn (DB) is Germany's national railway company. Its rail network is very modern, highly efficient, and covers the entire country. High-speed InterCity trains travel between cities, while EuroCity trains cover the continent. A new TGV/ICE high-speed train connects Frankfurt to Paris in under four hours.
Frankfurt has a very useful tourist information office which provides maps, tourist information and tickets like the Frankfurt Card. There are two locations: at the Hauptbahnhof and in Romerberg 27. These offices are open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 21:00, and weekends from 09:00 to 18:00.

This month's lucky winner is Mr. Laith Addabbas who lives in Jordan.
