Dresden Klotsche Airport is the main gateway to the city and is located a short drive northeast of the city centre. The airport maintains connections with a large number of EU cities as well as some international destinations. National carrier Lufthansa operates a significant proportion of the flights to and from the airport.

The airport terminal is modern and well equipped with passenger facilities, including ATMs, a bank, a post office and a bureau de change. There are also both regular and duty-free shopping outlet plus several dining establishments.
To get to the city from the airport, passengers can make use of the S-Bahn train service which operates throughout the day and makes the journey in less than 20 minutes. Alternatively, passengers can take bus service number 77, followed by tram service number 7, with this option also providing access to the downtown area. Taxis are also available from outside of the airport’s Arrivals area.

Drivers can reach the city via the A13 from Berlin and destinations north or via the A4 from destinations east and west of the city. EU visitors can make use of the Eurolines bus services to reach Dresden from other countries on the continent. There are national bus and rail services to Dresden from most major German cities.

In the city, trams, buses and trains comprise the highly efficient public transportation service known as the Straßenbahn. Through one or a combination of these modes of transport, it’s possible to reach just about anywhere in the city. Tickets can be bought from machines and are transferable between the different services. Hourly, daily and family tickets are available at a discount.

Car hire is available at the airport and in the city and it offers a convenient way of getting around if you plan on doing a lot of travelling.
