Airports
Strasbourg-Entzheim International Airport is the main gateway to Strasbourg and is located just to the southwest of the city centre. Flights land here from all over Europe as well as from selected long-haul destinations. Facilities are good and include ATMs, currency exchange and duty-free shopping.
A combination of shuttle bus and trams serves the city centre, via Baggersee, from the airport. Taxis are also available 24 hours, while those who have hire cars pre-booked can take the A35 motorway or highway D392 into the city.
Other airports in the region are Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport in neighbouring Germany, served by low-coast airline Ryanair, and Frankfurt International Airport, which is about three hours away in Germany, and is served by flights from all over the world.
Public Transport
If you get tired of walking around Strasbourg, then four tram lines cover the city well with several stations and modern cars. There is also an efficient bus system; tickets are interchangeable with tram tickets and can be bought from drivers and vending machines. Return tickets are cheaper than single tickets, while 24-hour unlimited use tickets and trio tickets (24-hour unlimited use for three people) are also available.
In addition, Strasbourg has 100 miles of bike lanes around town, and there are numerous vélocation bike kiosks where you can rent a bicycle by the hour or day. Drivers will find parking-relais (park ‘n’ ride) very useful. Car hire is possible in the city and at nearby airports, with all major European rental outlets represented.
Europass tickets cover buses and trams and are available 24 hours for those spending time in Strasbourg. The Strasbourg Pass is another option. This three-day pass allows discounts and free entry to many attractions including the 216-foot high cathedral viewing platform.
