Airports

Orleans Airport is the closest airport to the city, however, it predominantly serves charter flights and is therefore of limited use or convenience for international travellers. Paris’ Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports are the chief points of entry for most visitors bound for Orleans and the Centre-Loire Valley region.

Both airports are well equipped with passenger facilities and well served by public transportation options. Speedy connections can be made with the city, from where transportation to Orleans - located 62 miles (100kms) south of Paris - is possible. Charles de Gaulle airport is the larger of the two airport’s and is France’s busiest airport, serving 45 million passengers per year. The airport’s own metro station provides the quickest means of reaching downtown Paris.

Public Transport

Orleans can be reached in about an hour by road from Paris, with the N20 providing the most obvious route, but access is also available via the A10. Rail is a popular option for reaching Orleans, with a total of 10 services per day connecting Paris’s Gare d’Austerlitz station with the city and the journey taking about 1 hour, 15 minutes to complete. From Tours to Orleans there are 12 daily services and the journey takes about 50 minutes. Connections to Orleans are also available by bus from Paris and major cities across the country.

Once in the city, the Semtao Tramline and the public bus services provide options for getting around. Tickets are transferable between the two modes of transport and cheap travel options are available for visitors planning on making frequent use of services.
