Getting Around Nice

Bus
Sun Bus transport system is the equivalent of a public bus service, though privately run. Expect to pay around EUR1.30 for a single or opt for a 'Nice by bus' day pass, which will cost you around EUR4. There is also a night bus service serving four routes. Information on the bus itineraries and schedules can be obtained at Sun Bus agency or at the tourist office. Sun Bus Agency is located at 10 Avenue Félix-Faure.

Station Centrale is the main hub of Sun Bus, occupying three sides of Général Leclerc Square. Many buses leave Central for Gare Nice Ville and Vieux Nice. At night, four Noctambuses run north, east and west from place Masséna.

Car
If you just want to take in the countryside for a day, several major car hire companies compete for your euro in Nice.

Ferry
Located in the heart of the city, the Port of Nice is situated just 6km from the Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport and a few minutes on foot from the city's main tourist attractions. It is the only French port with an NGV (High Speed Ferry) service to Corsica. The island can be reached within 2.5 to 3 hours, making day trips to Corsica possible; the crossing on traditional ferries otherwise takes between 6 and 8 hours. Two companies provide services to and from the island; these are Corsica Ferries and SNCM Ferryterranee. Services offered by the two ferry terminals include a tourist office, car park, WC, showers, baby changing facilities, games room and drinks & sweets machines. Location: Quai Amiral-Infernet, Port de Nice

Motorcycle
If you are brave, small (50cc) scooters or large (125cc) motorcycles are available for hire in the city. Do wear a helmet.

Taxi
Some taxi drivers in Nice can be dishonest. Make sure the driver is using the meter and applying the right rate, clearly outlined in a laminated card, which the driver is required by law to display. There are taxi stands right outside Gare Nice Ville and on ave Félix Faure close to Place Masséna.

Train
The Nice railway station is an imposing building, falling perfectly within the codes of beauty as far as 19th-century stations are concerned, with brickwork, mouldings and vast open spaces. SNCF (the French National Railway Company) links Nice with the largest cities in France and also provides regular connections from abroad. Paris can be reached in 6.5 hours with the TGV high-speed train. A tourist office is located within the station and is open daily. The station is open 24 hours and offers access for the physically challenged. Located at Avenue Thiers, Promenade du Paillon
