Airports

Montpellier Mediterranee International Airport, the main airport serving the city, maintains a limited number of European connections. For many visitors, it’s necessary to fly into Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport first and then take a domestic flight to Montpellier.

The airport sits five miles (eight kilometres) out of the city centre and transportation options between the two include buses, trams and taxis. The airport terminal is a modern facility offering equally modern amenities and services. ATMs, bureaux de change, shops and restaurants are all on hand and Wi-fi access is available for passengers with notebooks.

There are direct flights to the city via easyJet from London Gatwick Airport and via Ryanair from London’s Stansted Airport. Domestic services to and from the airport are handled exclusively by Air France.

Public Transport

The city is easily reached by road from both domestic and EU destinations; the A7-A9 route provides the main road access from Paris. Buses travelling from major French cities connect with the city several times a day, while Eurolines provides connections from EU countries. Trains to the city are frequent, with a total of 11 high-speed TGV services from Paris’ Gare de Lyon Station operating daily. The main train station is in the city centre, close to all the major amenities.

The city has a comprehensive public transport network comprising buses and trams and covering the city centre and the suburban areas also. Both services use the same tickets so a journey can be a combination of tram and bus if it’s the most convenient means of reaching your destination. Tickets can be bought from machines at tram stops or onboard buses from the driver. The tram service operates at three- to five-minute intervals at peak periods and the last service of the day leaves at midnight.

The Montpellier City Card, available from the city’s Tourist Office, allows you to sightsee at a discount. Providing free entry and price reductions to many sights of interest and free transport, the card is a suitable choice for any tourist to the city. Cards are available for 24-hour, 48-hour and 72-hour periods depending on the length of your stay.
