Nice Côte-d'Azur International Airport, to the west of Monaco, is the main gateway for most visitors to the principality. Flights come in here from all over the world from the likes of London, Amsterdam, Dublin and Los Angeles, and its two terminals have all modern facilities, ATMs and shopping. If for some reason you can’t get a flight to Nice, Marseille and Turin, which also have airports, are within reach.

Transport options from Nice Airport to Monaco include buses connecting both terminals, trains departing from a station near Terminal 1 as well as hotel shuttles and taxis. Those who rent cars at the airport can take the A8 motorway to Monaco, while limousines and helicopters are also on standby.

Most people use foot power to get around Monaco although the hot summer weather and steep streets see many people using public transport. Walkers can make use of the free public escalators and elevators in town. Bicycle is another good way to get around Monaco, and several places hire them out.
There are six bus lines in Monaco covering most tourist spots, with cost-effective travel passes available on board that allow tourists unlimited travel for a day. The Azur Express tourist train takes in the port, Monte Carlo Casino, various palaces and gardens, Monaco Ville and the Prince’s Palace, with commentary en route. The railway station and avenue de Monte Carlo have taxi stands, and cars can be rented at Nice Airport and at outlets in town.
