Dijon is an ideal destination for the gourmet, the wine-lover or the follower of art and history. With its numerous restaurants and the prestigious vineyards of Burgundy at its door, it offers a pleasant environment for your next escape.

Dijon is more than just the birthplace of one of the world’s premier mustards. It is also the historic powerbase of the Dukes of Burgundy and the capital of this richly cultural region of France. Its location in the Côte d’Or provides it with excellent wine growing conditions, stunning pastoral scenery and pleasant weather. Dijon is well known for blending its stately medieval architecture with a hip and youthful ambiance.

Dijon makes an excellent base for excursions around the Burgundy region of France. Fans of cycling and wine will particularly enjoy this part of the country, as there are miles of country paths along canals and through vineyards that are ideal for biking. Hot air balloon rides are another great way to experience the beautiful scenery, while boating along the canals offers a truly special outdoorexcursion.

One of the real charms about Dijon is its symbiotic blend of modern pleasures and medieval surroundings. The half-timbered houses of its downtown core contain both businesses and residences anchored by a cluster of three striking churches. Dijon’s premier museum, the Musée des Beaux-Arts, resides in a splendid old palace, while its quirkiest museum, the Musée de la Moutarde, is a tribute to the city’s timeless connection with mustard. Plenty of wonderful architecture coupled with a great atmosphere makes Dijon a joy to explore.

Flying into Dijon is not easy due to the presence of a nearby military air base. The only commercial flights in and out of its tiny Aéroport Dijon-Bourgogne are on taxi planes and via limited charter service. International travellers can conveniently fly into Paris, Geneva or London and make a land connection, however. There are plans to establish a wider range of commercial flights into Dijon.

We enjoyed the dinner though the style of the food was classic French and therefore more like a trip to the past. We would have preferred at least a choice of some more modern French cuisine....
