Cannes enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with gorgeous warm and long summer days and mild to cool shorter winter days. Spring and autumn are transitional, bringing cool nights and mornings and warm days. Rainfall is not especially heavy in any season, although October and November are the wettest months.
A part of the Espace Marineland complex, La Ferme du Far West is a small zoo with Wild West themed attractions. The zoo is home to a variety of farm animals including donkeys, sheep, chickens, ducks, pheasants and geese. Aside from the animals, highlights include the Mississippi River, Funambulo, Galloping Horses and the Labyrinth attractions. Phone: +33 892 30 06 06.
Cannes’ calendar of events is busy, with its international film festival in May taking first prize for the most interesting, exciting and glamorous event of the year. Bastille Day and other popular French holidays are celebrated enthusiastically by Cannes’ residents, and the city is always a lively place to be at these times.
Go celebrity spotting. Schedule your trip to Cannes to coincide with the famous Cannes Film Festival and not only can you enjoy the public movie screenings at Cinema de la Plage on Mace Beach, but there's also a good chance that you will see some famous faces. Hang out around the Carlton Hotel for the best chance of spotting celebrities going about their business or join the masses at the barricades of the red carpets before screenings are due to start.
Cannes has a public transportation system, but it consists solely of bus services so many visitors hire cars during their stay for extra convenience. Taxis are also available but can work out expensive if used regularly over an extended period. The city's bus network is extensive and services have a reasonably good reputation for both regularity and efficiency. Single ticket prices are affordable, but anyone planning on regular use of the services should consider purchasing one of the books of tickets or passes that are available. These can be purchased from drivers or at bus stations.
