Airports

Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is the chief air facility serving Cannes and is located just 15 miles from its city centre. It’s a busy airport that serves nearly 10 million passengers per year and provides a major gateway to the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Flights from the UK are provided by British Airways, Bmi and easyJet, while Northwest Airlines is one of the chief route operators from the US.

There are two terminals at the airport: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, the latter being the larger of the two and capable of handling over eight million annual passengers. Both terminals offer a good selection of facilities including banks, bureaux de change, ATMs, post office services and shopping and dining outlets.

From the airport, it’s possible to reach the city of Nice and destinations beyond by using the Gare Nice St Augustin train station, located 500 metres from Terminal 1. Buses are also available, with over 20 different routes provided. Taxis can be hired from stands situated outside the Arrivals halls. Passengers travelling by taxi between the hours of 19:00 and 07:00 are obliged to pay evening rates, which are the usual meter rate plus a surcharge. Car rental is also available at the airport for passengers who prefer to make their own way into Cannes.

Public Transport

Cannes has a public transportation system, but it consists solely of bus services so many visitors hire cars during their stay for extra convenience. Taxis are also available but can work out expensive if used regularly over an extended period.

The city’s bus network is extensive and services have a reasonably good reputation for both regularity and efficiency. Single ticket prices are affordable, but anyone planning on regular use of the services should consider purchasing one of the books of tickets or passes that are available. These can be purchased from drivers or at bus stations.

Bus services are provided by several private companies such as Beltrame, Bus Azur, CTM Cannes La Bocca and STU de Cannes Bus Azur. The city has two main bus stations, and all services commence and terminate at one of these stations.

Taxi services are government regulated so fares are metered. Cabs can be hailed in the street or booked ahead by telephone; there are also taxi stands outside significant locations such as bus and train stations and major hotels.
