
Tampere-Pirkkala Airport (TMP), situated around 17kms from downtown Tampere, is Finland’s second busiest international airport after Helsinki. The airport operates two terminals of which Terminal 1 is considered the primary facility serving the bulk of major carriers. Terminal 2 is used mostly by budget carrier Ryanair. Tampere-Pirkkala airport maintains connections with domestic and international destinations including Stockholm, Copenhagen, Frankfurt-Hahn, Liverpool, London Stansted, Dublin, Riga and Bremen.

The airport offers a good selection of passenger services and amenities with the bulk concentrated in Terminal 1. Here you’ll find an information desk, a VIP lounge, conference facilities, a child care room, ATMs and bureaux de change, as well as a variety of shops and restaurants.

For ground transportation options, a public bus service connects the airport with downtown Tampere and takes about 40 minutes from to reach the city. Alternatively, taxis are available outside the Arrivals areas of both terminals, providing metered travel to the city and beyond.

Tampere operates a highly efficient public transportation system made up of bus and rail services. The bus network covers a large part of the city and services connect the city centre with the suburbs and beyond. Buses are clean and comfortable, operate punctually and are reasonably priced. Travel cards are available that offer discounts again the cost of single tickets.

Trains meanwhile, operate across the city and to major Finnish destinations also. Regular connections between Tampere and the country’s capital city, Helsinki, run throughout the day with a journey time of under two hours. Taxis are available from strategic locations around the city or can be hailed in the street. Taxi fares are expensive however compared with the bus or train.
