About 250 km north of the Arctic Circle the enchanting village of Saariselkä nestles in a lovely valley, where the unique attractions include being mesmerised by the aurora borealis (northern lights), sampling Lappish reindeer meat, and taking part in a dizzying variety of winter sports. Visitors also love getting pulled around in a reindeer-led sleigh or a snowmobile, or by taking a walk in snowshoes. The terrain is ideal for cross-country skiing, sledding and hiking. Getting around town the small village is easy enough of foot.
