Airports
 The nearest airport to York is Leeds Bradford International Airport, which is located 30 miles to the west. Flights arrive frequently every day from London’s Heathrow Airport, allowing international travellers to make easy connections from their home countries. The terminal has currency exchange kiosks, ATMs, restaurants, bars and shops to help get you started.
 There are several transport options to get from the Leeds Bradford Airport into York. Taxis provide the most convenient, albeit expensive, way to reach your destination. Airport coaches operated by First Bus run directly from the terminal to York’s city centre, while car hire is available at the airport for those who prefer to drive themselves. The A6120 ring road connects to the A64 road east of the airport, making it easy to navigate to York.
Public Transport
 Arriving by train is a great way to get to York. Its lovely century-old rail terminal lies on Station Road, a short five-minute walk from the city centre. Trains depart from London’s King’s Cross Station every 30 minutes for the two-hour journey. Coaches operated by National Express also provide frequent service to York from virtually every town in the UK. As York has no official bus terminal, the long-distance coaches drop passengers off adjacent to the train station.
The old city centre of York is easily explored on foot, but to get farther afield the public bus network run by First covers 20 routes in and around the city. Fares are divided into six zones, and tickets can be bought for single trips. Alternatively, daily and weekly passes are available at a discount.
 Taxis are easily hailed along the street or can be found queued up on St Saviourgate and Piccadilly streets. All the usual car hire firms have offices in York, and there are more than 60 miles of dedicated bike routes in the city centre and surrounding countryside.
