English

The climate in Newcastle is typically British in every respect, implying that despite four fairly distinct seasons, rain and cloudy spells can occur at any time of the year. As a general rule, summers are warm to hot, winters are cold but rarely excessively so and spring and autumn are transitional seasons. Extremes of weather such as heat waves or seriously sub-zero temperatures are rare.
Details of the life of the famous Benedictine monk from Northumbria known as the Venerable Bede are available to all at this unique museum and visitor centre. The chief attraction is the interactive Age of Bede exhibition, while other highlights include the site of the Anglo-Saxon monastery of St Paul, the herb garden and the Anglo-Saxon demonstration farm known as Gyrwe. Of all the structures of Roman origin to be found along Hadrian's Wall, Segedunum meaning 'strong fort' is one of the most interesting. Considered the gateway to the wall, the fort includes an interactive museum, a viewing tower and a full-sized reconstruction of traditional Roman Baths. Phone: +44 191 236 9347
Newcastle is easily reached by road, with the A1 and A69 roads providing the principal points of entry to the city. The UK's train network provides connections to the city from across the nation with regular services from major cities such as London, Manchester and Birmingham. Long distance bus services provided by National Express make connections possible from most parts of the country.
