Tips for the British Grand Prix

  • 1General Admission tickets are all standing, getting to the circuit very early is a must.
  • 2Lots of fans will be use the park and ride bus service to get to the track.
  • 3Avoid traffic at Hinton in the Hedges park and ride by taking junction 10, not junction 11
  • 4You can take in chairs, but the smaller the better. A rucksack with an integrated seat is ideal.

The British approach their motorsport with great pride and many the isles have produced a number of legendary names in Formula 1 including John Surtees, Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Damon Hill and now Jenson Button to name a few. This approach has instilled a unique and reverential quality to the air of circuits such as Silverstone, where the British Grand Prix is currently held. A heavily modified track awaits the drivers and their teams, but many classic elements still remain, such as the section beginning at Copse corner through to the end of Hangar Straight. This ensures some of the fast and flowing action of days past.

History
1926 was the first year in which a British Grand Prix was held and since its inclusion in the Formula 1 series, Silverstone has hosted the event far more often than any other venue. Between 1963 and 1986, the track shared the Grand Prix with Brands Hatch, another historic racing ground, alt ernating each year. Since then however, Formula 1 cars have taken to Silverstone’s iconic corners every year and despite nearly losing the race to Donington Park for 2010 onwards, new design features are in place for another long contractual period of hosting rights. Look closely and you will easily see the shining attributes that have always made Silverstone such a great circuit.
