Mostyn Hotel was originally built as a private residence for Lady Black, a lady-in-waiting to the court of George II. A lot of the original architecture has been retained, especially the magnificent ornate ceilings in the restaurant and conference rooms by John Adam. Whether you are a guest for leisure or business, all of the hotel's rooms create a "home away from home" feeling.

In fact, my total stay in London was 7 days. But due to FULLY BOOKED situation, i only managed to get confirmation from 21st to 24th June. The 1st 3 nights in that room was awful, the room was dirty and run-down. But things changed when i was about to check out on 24th June 2009. They offered extension of the balance 3 nights since there's a room available. (In fact, i had did a reservation in another hotel). But, this time Mostyn did not let me down. The new room that was arranged are clean, neat and well-kept which make me feel cosy and comfotable staying in Mostyn. I will definately stayed in Mostyn when i am in London again!

The hotel location was excellent- that was the main reason of choice. However, the fact that the hotel lobby was refurbished and we were not informed of it in advance, was unacceptable.
The rooms were nice and very clean- the size of the room was OK. Poor rating above, is mainly due to the refurbishment and the staff. some windows ( we rented 4 rooms in total) were not closing properly, so a lot of noise form the streets could be heard in the room.
The staff was not very keen to assist, sometimes even rude. Were surprised to find out that the fluent English speaking staff was minimum.
All-in-all our stay was pleasant, but could have been even better if we could use the lobby and the lounge- or even if we could be informed of the refurbishment in advance and if the staff was a bit more "happy" to be there.
No lobby or lounge, and only one lift for a 4-floor hotel. Some of the staff was polite, but there was staff especially at the reception, that was quite rude.
In addition, there were staff members with very low English language level, that made it hard to communicate. A minibar could be placed in the room, even for the basics, such as water and maybe medicines. After the refurbishment is completed, the hotel will offer very good value for money.
Although for us it was still value for money, as we wanted something at this location, and did not want to stay in the hotel for long.

Apart from the location, the staff were really friendly and excellent, helping when they could. They needed to - the internet connections in the rooms did not work, and not for 1 week after my stay either! The wireless in the lobby area did not work either. I chose the hotel because of the promised internet connection, and was told in writing - email- that it was available in ALL rooms, which is not true at the best of times - the first floor rooms have no internet access at all at any time.
The A/C was not working my first night, and I could not sleep (London is very hot now) so they changed my room the next morning - really quite inconvenient, and I had to do the room selection myself, otherwise it could be really noisy (buses, cars, sirens etc) if the room was abutting on Portman St. Consider the Thistle Marbe arch across the road, which looks better kept (but can't comment on rooms, servce or anything else. It did look much better than other Thistles I've been in)
Breakfast was tinned fruit mainly if you had the continental option, but a decent English fry-up if you had the full. They did not seem to be too fussed if you went for the English if your booking was supposed to be the continental (which included some cheeses and sliced meats as well as cereal) The juices were suspect - at least the grapefruit was - did not bear any resemblance to any g'fruit juice I'd had in the past!! Overall, an average rating, only brought up from that side of poor by the staff and loc
