Sharm el-Sheikh has grown from a simple fishing village into a thriving tourist destination. The city is often referred to as Sharm and is stunningly situated on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, between the Red Sea and Mount Sinai. The city is the administrative hub of Egypt's Southern Sinai province, which also includes Mount Sinai and the much smaller coastal towns of Nuweiba and Dahab.
The city centre of Sharm is a haven for those looking to shop for a bargain or two. You must however be aware that shop keepers and stall owners can be quite pushy and since they are accustomed to bargaining, initial quotes of prices will be incredibly high. You must be prepared to bargain and shy away from free drinks and food. In the larger cities such as Cairo, these offering do not bind the shopper to anything, but in Sharm, accepting a free drink almost contracts you to buy something.
Coptic Christmas: This religious and festive holiday is held at the beginning of January. The small numbers of Coptic residents that live in the city celebrate by hosting colourful parades, musical concerts and religiously significant plays.
This chapel can be found on top of St Catherine's monastery. Empress Helen, the mother of Constantine, ordered that it be built in the 6th century AD. The chapel is home to St Catherine's relics and her remains are said to have been found at the top of the peak, 500 years after she was carried away by angels. This chapel is said to be the spiritual heart of the monastery.
If you are flying in, you will arrive at Sharm el-Sheik's international airport, Ophira. The airport can be found just 10 kms outside of Naama Bay and offers limited but reasonable facilities.
The Egyptian currency is known as the Egyptian pound (EGP). The pound is divided up into 100 piastres, with coins coming in denominations of: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 25 piastres and banknotes available in denominations of: 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pounds.

This month's lucky winner is Mr. Laith Addabbas who lives in Jordan.
