Top Things to See

As most people come to Hurghada for the sun and sea, the beaches and scuba diving are the main attractions and there are several sandy shores to check out. The old town has a certain flair about it, while Al Ahiaa (the modern part) and Sekala are other worthwhile districts.

Al Ahiaa
Located just south of Sekala is the newer and modern part of Hurghada, Al Ahiaa. It lies along the coastal road and although it doesn’t yet quite have the flair of the older parts of Hurghada, there are many well-equipped hotels here as well as a good selection of shops and restaurants.

Anfish Mountain
Anfish Mountain is the perfect spot from which to discern the hodgepodge city of Hurghada. You can clearly see how badly the city has developed but you also get to see the wonderful stretch of coastline. In addition, you can also see various Red Sea islands, and the mountains in the Eastern Desert jump out at you.

Ed-Dahar Bazaar
The Ed-Dahar Bazaar is a must-see for lovers of bustling markets as it lies in the old part of town and has all the buzz of a traditional Egyptian bazaar. All sorts of items and foodstuffs are available at the bazaar, from intricate brassware and furniture to jewellery and more hawkers than you could poke a stick at. Always barter but do so with a smile on your face.

El Dahar
El Dahar refers to the old town and it is the traditional heart of Hurghada and the place to find some real charm. The tourist office is here as well as the post office, loads of hotels and restaurants and plenty of nightlife. El Dahar is also nice and close to the beach and you can pick up a bargain hotel here as well as an all-inclusive resort.

Hurghada Beaches
Hurghada has several beaches and there is a good chance that your hotel has its own. If not, there are plenty of public beaches to choose from. Old Vic Village is good for those with families as it is shielded from the wind and surf and has good facilities. Papas Beach Club is better for singletons, while the Chill Beach Bar is one for divers and surfers.

Hurghada Daytrips
Sharm el Sheikh lies on the southern tip of South Sinai, across the Red Sea, and features amazing beaches, good diving and excellent entertainment options. Luxor is another obvious daytrip from Hurghada, lying along the Nile to the southwest. The Valley of the Kings is the main highlight, while Karnak Temple and the Luxor Museum are also very popular.

Sekala
Sekala is another of Hurghada’s busy areas and is famously nestled around the old harbour. It features lots of shopping options as well as big and small hotels and a number of bars and restaurants. Sekala is located south of downtown towards the airport and is most popular with tourists who are looking for a bit of fun.
