Czech Republic Overview

The Czech Republic is located literally at the heart of Europe. It borders Poland, Germany, Austria, and, of course, Slovakia. Though landlocked, the Czech enjoy access to the Elbe and Morava Rivers that flow to the North, Baltic and Black Seas. This is the land of strong spirit, where old traditions have survived the ages, and where one does not have to go far to see ancient castles and chateaux that fill visitors with amazement and awe. The country is a place filled with romance and intrigue, where the people of Czech offer a warmth and friendliness that leaves an unforgettable impression on its visitors. Resorts in the Czech Republic are famed for their incredible value, offering guests unparalleled access to a country that only emerged from the Iron Curtain a quarter century ago.

Tourism has largely focused on the country's capital, Prague, with its art galleries, amazing museums, concerts, and other cultural draws. Visitors may enjoy any number of day trips from the city, including the great western spa towns of Karlovy Vary and Mariánské Lázně, early settlements like Kutná Hora and castles like Karlstejn. Classic hotels abound in these areas, to allow for the traveller seeking a more in-depth examination of these wonders. The remainder of the country has much to offer the independent traveller as well. The Sumava Mountains, to the south in Bohemia offer excellent rambles and a range of different sports. Preserved medieval towns, like Český Krumlov, captivate visitors, having seemingly been frozen in time. Northeastern Bohemia's mountains, like the Český Ráj, offer superb hiking amidst breathtaking scenery. In Moravia, the eastern half of the country, life is bucolic and pastoral. Hotels in Brno provide an excellent base for exploring important historic towns like Olomouc.

The Czech Republic possesses a large number of fascinating castles, grandiose churches and other architectural treasures. Always known for its musicians, visitors can experience all kinds of concerts and festivals. The country has a rich cultural heritage, as evoked by its representation by classical composers like Dvorak and writers like Franz Kafka. From the Golden City of Prague to the glorious peaks of the High Tatras, one cannot help but be enchanted by this wonderful country. Classic hotels, breathtaking beauty, and a tourist friendly infrastructure make the Czech Republic, in many ways, a traveller's dream destination. Although prices have risen over the past decade, the country still represents very good value for money with its selection of accommodation, dining and activities.
