International Transport

Southern Cyprus is served by two international airports: Larnaca Airport and Paphos Airport. Cyprus Airways is the national carrier. Northern Cyprus can be reached from Turkey only and is served by Ercan International Airport. KKTC, Onar Air and Turkish Airways are the national carriers for northern Cyprus.

Larnaca International Airport
Larnaca International Airport is located three miles outside of Larnaca and is the major port of entry into Cyprus.

A car park can be found in front of the terminal building and charges by the hour. Only short-term parking is offered and because of this, the car park can get full very quickly, especially during the peak season. Despite being charged by the hour, parking is relatively inexpensive.

Facilities at the airport include banks, bureaux de change, a café, post office and duty-free shopping. Snacks and light meals are available 24 hours. There are facilities for disabled passengers, which include wheelchairs and toilets with disabled access.

The airport can be found on the B4 expressway, which leads straight to Larnaca city centre. An airport bus leaves every hour from Monday to Friday and takes 15 minutes. You can also take a taxi to your hotel and many hotels organise shuttle services for their customers.

Paphos International Airport
The airport can be found nine miles from the city and is smaller than Larnaca, both in terms of annual passengers and size, and serves mainly charter airlines.

Both short-term and long-term car parking facilities can be found at Paphos Airport, with the single car park located very close to the terminal building.

Facilities found at Paphos Airport include a bank, ATM, bureau de change, restaurant and bar, duty-free shopping and a medical centre. There is disabled access throughout the airport.

Taxis offer the most convenient transfer to the city or to your preferred destination, although there is a regular bus service taking passengers into Paphos which departs from outside the terminal building.

Visit this website for further information about Paphos International Airport.

Ercan International Airport
This airport is not internationally recognised as a legal port of entry into Cyprus, except by Turkey and the Republic of Northern Cyprus.

There are limited facilities and parking available. Facilities include a bank and some small eateries. Taxis can be found outside the terminal building and can take you to your hotel. Many hotels also offer transfers.

Sea
It is possible to catch a ferry from Greece to Cyprus, but services are very irregular. Services from Israel and Egypt have recently been terminated. There are three main ports on the island, which can be found at Limassol, Larnaca and Vassiliko.

Domestic Transport

Bus
Cyprus’ bus service is very unreliable and frequently stops running. You will need to enquire about bus times and routes on arrival, as services are infrequent and changeable.

Taxi
Taxis work within city limits and as long as you are within their limits, you can book a taxi to pick you up and drop you off from anywhere. They do not run all night and usually the latest you can book a taxi for is 18:00. It is not uncommon to share a taxi with someone who is going your way, which will save you money. Fares are usually increased on Sundays and pubic holidays.

Car
The public transport network in Cyprus is surprisingly bad, so most Cypriots prefer to drive, which causes heavy traffic, especially during rush hours. Car hire is the most convenient but also the most expensive way to travel around the island. Cypriots drive on the left side of the road, the same as in the UK.
