The ancient town of Famagusta, in northern Cyprus, is surrounded by mediaeval-era sturdy old walls built by the Venetians. They are infinitely explorable with gates, ramps and bastions. Also worth a visit are St Barnabas Monastery and Museum and the Agioos Ioannis Church and Icon Museum. The northern part of this Mediterranean island has relatively little rainfall and has a temperate climate, making visiting here pleasant throughout the year.
