Croatia Introduction

With its beautiful stretches of white sandy beaches on the Adriatic coast, Croatia is fast becoming a fabulous international destination for tourists. Boasting the cleanest waters in the Mediterranean, it’s no wonder that water sport enthusiasts have discovered Croatia and are flocking to its seaside resorts to enjoy boating, diving and snorkeling pursuits.
Even though it sports a reputation for being a coastal nirvana, Croatia’s interior offers many attractions as well, including the capital Zagreb and gorgeous city of Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik’s Old City is a major draw for history-lovers and is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Scattered throughout the countryside are castles, cathedrals and small villages seemingly still trapped in medieval times. In the cities travellers will find a wide range of museums and historical points of interest, as well as scores of old buildings and cathedrals that reflect the regions varied pasts. Croatia’s large cities are magnets for young travellers, as reasonable lodging costs draw revellers who otherwise might not be able to afford other, more conventional European destinations. This also makes for a thriving nightlife scene, given the more youthful orientation of tourists who choose this emerging holiday destination.
Wherever one goes in this land that was once part of the former Yugoslavia Republic, they can find unspoiled nature and beautiful scenery. The exquisite beach resorts on the Adriatic Sea enjoy award-winning clean waters and reputations for the best amenities and service in the region. One look at Croatia’s coastline on a map reveals the thousands of fingers and nooks that combine to make the country a water sport-lover’s idea of heaven on earth.
After a long drive for independence and the accompanying strife, Croatia is making its mark on the international tourism scene. When good value, excellent infrastructure and friendly, hospitable people are combined the result is the makings of a fantastic holiday destination.
