Formerly a part of the Yugoslavian Republic,
Croatia is a country and independent state situated
in the south of Europe. It’s flanked by the Adriatic
Sea to the southwest, while Hungary lies north,
Slovenia to the northwest, Serbia and Montenegro
to the east and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the southeast.
With a long struggle for independence and no shortage
of military conflict accompanying it, Croatia has
had its work cut out to convince the world that
it’s a viable destination for tourists. The last
decade has seen it pull off the task impressively,
however, and it’s now seeing visitors in numbers
sufficient to put it among the most popular holiday
locations in this part of the continent.
