Costa Rica Introduction

Costa Rica is considered the jewel of Central America, located in the southern part of the region above Panama, with Nicaragua as its neighbor to the north. Long fabled for its stability, with enlightened attitudes toward conservation and tourism, Costa Rica has carved out a special ecotourism niche in the international travel scene. The country is a democracy and is considered the wealthiest in Central America, with a fair distribution of land and resources that allows it to be a haven for the Westerner seeking an idyllic tropical getaway in as natural an environment as is possible.
With coasts on both the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, visitors to Costa Rica enjoy a wealth of choice in beaches and resort styles. With lush jungles filled with colourful birds, jungle cats and cavorting monkeys, wildlife lovers will find the country filled with exotic adventure and fun-filled excursions. Attention to conservation, hospitality toward visitors and investment in infrastructure has combined to cement Costa Rica as a premier, international tropical destination.
Visitors fly into Costa Rica’s international airport at San José, which is the nation’s largest city and its capital. All the major, branded hotel companies are represented in the growing metropolitan area and they set the standard for luxury accommodation in Latin America. San José offers a modern city with a dynamic mix of arts and architecture and vigorous commerce. The city offers excellent dining choice, great shopping, and a thriving nightlife.
Travellers selecting Costa Rica as their destination can expect to find wide selection of resorts and hotels in every price range and offering every amenity, as well as an endless offering of excursions that help to bring them closer to nature and the environment. If you’re looking for a place to go where the people are friendly, the beaches are clean, and conservation is uppermost in the minds of the governmental leaders, you can do no better than picking Costa Rica.

While Costa Rica offers a reasonable selection of activities for holiday makers, there are few that are aimed specifically at children. Family attractions such as the national parks that make up the Costa Rican rainforest are perhaps the best places to head to in order to keep the kids entertained. Indoor alternatives include watching an afternoon movie. Some of the large hotels may offer activities for small children such as professional entertainers or games.
