Strange World Museum
This museum of all things unusual is the Chinese version of ‘Ripley's Believe It or Not.’ Kids are fascinated by the exhibits of the emperor’s clothing and rare creatures such as albino reptiles and two-headed dogs. There are also colonial-era antiques on display, swords used in beheadings, a re-created opium den and lots more. Puppet shows are held on a traditional, ornate stage. Phone: +86 592 206 9933.

Xiamen International Marathon: on 5th January the annual international marathon takes place in Xiamen. Entrants from all over the world make the trip here to complete for gold. The organising committee is expecting between 20,000 and 30,000 competitors in the next marathon including Chinese, other Asian, European and American runners.

Botanical Garden Temples
A temple known as the Tiger Stream Temple is located near the botanical gardens on the western side of Drunk Immortal Mountain. This area is noted for its ancient calligraphy found on many boulders here. It is said that on the 15^th day of the lunar month, the light of the moon makes the clay figurines seem to come alive. Visiting pilgrims come to this spot during the Mid-Autumn Festival to see this magical transformation.

Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (XMN) is located approximately six miles (10kms) from Xiamen city centre. Opened in 1983, it is now one of China’s ten busiest airports. Xiamen Airlines is based here, and several other airlines service the facility, providing links with 58 domestic and 17 international cities. A full range of facilities and amenities are available for passengers including banks, bureaux de change, bars, restaurants, shops and tourist information.
