Located in Fujian province on China’s southeast coast, Xiamen’s appeal to visitors has as much to do with its proximity to the sea as with its century-old colonial architecture. The city has been one of the country’s major seaports for hundreds of years and features a deep water port that is open year-round due to the favourable climate. The name 'Xiamen' mean 'Gate to China’.
Xiamen provides plenty of amusements for children and attractions that will appeal to the whole family. Xiamen International Marathon: on 5th January the annual international marathon takes place in Xiamen. Entrants from all over the world make the trip here to complete for gold. The organising committee is expecting between 20,000 and 30,000 competitors in the next marathon including Chinese, other Asian, European and American runners.

Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (XMN) is located approximately six miles (10kms) from Xiamen city centre. Opened in 1983, it is now one of China’s ten busiest airports. Xiamen Airlines is based here, and several other airlines service the facility, providing links with 58 domestic and 17 international cities. A full range of facilities and amenities are available for passengers including banks, bureaux de change, bars, restaurants, shops and tourist information.
