Dafen Oil Painting Village
This site is home to hundreds of artists who reproduce classical Western paintings as well as showcasing their own original works. Budding artists are given the opportunity to work side by side with established artists and visitors have the chance to experience China’s trendy artistic scene.

Dapeng Fortress
This ancient fort is also known as ‘Dapeng Guarding Thousand Families City’ and is an enormous building dating back to 1394, built by the Ming dynasty. It is located in Dapeng Town and gives Shenzhen its name of Peng Town. Much of the fortress has been destroyed over time, but it allows visitors the chance to imagine what life would have been like in Shenzhen in the 14th century.
Shenzhen Xianhu Botanical Garden
These stunning gardens are located in a huge outdoor park with a pagoda and beautiful waterfall. It is the perfect place to spend a day relaxing and getting close to nature. A wide variety of tropical plants and flowers can be viewed and enjoyed.

It is regarded as being one of Shenzhen's best-preserved natural settings and boasts natural springs, stunning blossom (in spring) and picturesque waterfalls. The lake in the centre of the resort is surrounded by imperial architecture and offers the chance to partake in some water sports as well as providing the perfect setting for a picnic. There is a corridor encircling the lake which was built to provide sheltered walkways. The Xili Pagoda and the Qilin Mountain Pavilion offer panoramic views over the entire resort.

Splendid China
This popular attraction is one of Shenzhen’s best. It is in fact a mini China with scaled down replicas of China's historical buildings, scenes and customs. The models are by and large at the ratio of 1:15 and are positioned to replicate their geographical locations. A great deal of attention has been paid to detail to ensure that all replicas truly represent the original masterpieces. All exhibits are surrounded by lush tropical gardens as well housing over 50,000 ceramic figures.
The Scenic Spot Area boasts a model of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses that are found in Xian City; replicated sections of the Great Wall; the Forbidden City; the Old Summer Palace; the Ancient Observatory of Beijing; the Mogao Caves of Dunhuang and Tibet's Potala Palace. At the replica of the Li River, visitors are surrounded by fresh water and mountain gardens, making it a perfect place to sit, contemplate and relax.

The city is easy to find your way around, and unless you venture far off the designated paths, it is unlikely you will get lost.

Try some local dishes and treat yourself to a culinary delight. Shenzhen cuisine is a fusion of many of the country’s local offerings blended with a few home grown herbs and spices. You will find an assortment of cold meats served alongside hot and spicy noodles, plenty of street-side snacks and for the daring; there are even some offerings of the obscure kind.

See in the New Year in style and experience celebrations which are unique only to China. Chinese New Year is famed and celebrated across the world, but there is nothing like experiencing the sights and sounds of festivities in the country itself. Shenzhen celebrates the coming of the New Year much like the rest of the country, with dragon dances, feasts, music and lots of noise. Firecrackers are let off almost continuaously and music can be heard well into the night. Remember however that if you are travelling during this period, hotels will need to be booked well in advance to secure a room.
Travel the world in one day by taking a trip to Window of the World. This popular attraction boasts a mini Eiffel Tower, a replica of the Taj Mahal and a model of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The attention to detail is inspiring, with no aspect having been overlooked.
