The Sofitel Hyland is in a great position, has the most gloriously comfortable beds and outstanding breakfast .... it has been renovated but not to the usual Sofitel standard.

all hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, and the hotel location is excellent. Negatives include: the "free" internet did not work although the hotel technical staff attended to it several times, there is no hotel swimming pool, and we could hear construction noises from our room on the 25th floor. the room could be 10-20% larger. the bathroom did not have additional extraction fan. the air conditioning was not cool enough on a warm night. no swimming pool or outdoor area. all staff could speak English to different levels of efficiency; good helpful attitude not expecting tips. the "Char quay teow" quality was poor. right on Nanjing Road mall. taxis available at the lobby all the time; subway is only 5 mins walk away.

We were upgraded to an Executive Suite from a Std Room which was positively luxurious. Buffet Breakfast was the best of any hotel we have stayed at in China. Staff were efficient, pleasant and helpful.

The receptionist during the check in pushed me in order to upgrade my room mentioning all the advantages I could have paying € 40 more per day to get nothing more than a normal room, a breakfast in the crowded 30th floor breakfast room to have a poorer selection of food than in the normal breakfast room on 2nd floor and an happy hour where I had to pay for a Chinese guest….

The position of this hotel is excellent if you want to be in the thick of things - we loved it. We only had breakfast at the hotel and thought the quality of the food was excelent. The room was a very good size and cleanliness was very good. We had a very comfortable bed which we enjoyed. We found information given to us at the concierge desk incorrect, and felt the general attitude of staff there could be improved. Enjoyed our stay and would definately use this hotel again.

Staff attitude and service was excellent. The room we stayed
in 241`2 was too small for more than four days, especially considering the price we paid. The 30tyh floor dining area needs a big Architectural design change, to utilise the views and elite atmosphere.

Room layout and condition is below average (old) but bed is ok. Taxis (waiting by the hotel to pick up fare) from hotel to airport is a rip off. My second experience of being over charged, first was RMB190+ and recent is RMB182. Usualy pay around RMB140 to RMD150.

As a first time in China I was impressed by all staff to make my business trip a success. I would like to see more private booths in the lobby area for small group meetings (say three or four persons). The 30th floor could remove the computer stations to allow a more social atmosphere.

Staff were most helpful. Execitive room on 29th floor beneath club room was so noisy you could hear people walking backwards and forwards over wooden and granite floors when still in bed and late at night! So would avoid 29th floor at all costs. Hotel in perfect position for leasure tourists.

I rate the hotel facilities: business centre, swimming pool, fitness centre, taxi service, etc... as poor because I did not know that the hotel was undergoing partial renovation when I booked it. Hence, some of the restaurants, the swimming pool, fitness centre, and the whole hotel lobby were closed. There was also construction noises during my stay. However, the location was excellent and the standard of the room was good. Service was half-half..... some staff were friendly, some were grouchy and some were snobbish. But overall, I would still recommend this hotel highly as I believe strongly that things will improve once the renovations are over.
