I have stayed at Panorama several times. Since the dismantling of the old Waibaidu Bridge (for a long renovation) access to The Bund has become adventerous. Nearby old quarters have been flattened and Panorama is in the middle of a huge construction site. THUS its location is not so beneficial anymore. Breakfast buffet is great as always. Rooms are relatively small, but clean and I like their wooden floors. This time noice from neighbouring room was somwewhat disturbing as the sound isolation seems to be minimal. Also I was annoyed by cigarette smoke coming from air-conditioning. I'll wait until the neighbourhood has been ready-constructed and renovated Wiabaidu Bridge is again on its old place before choosing Panorama again.

The 'upgraded' room I paid for was hardly 'International 3-Star'. Paintwork was flaking paint, glossed over rather than repaired. Bathroom and furnishing were dated. The two queen size double bed were comfortable enough although the Mini-Bar was overpriced for such a below average establishment. The Restaurant on the 30th Floor displayed some of the worst Customer Service I've ever experienced in an 'International' Hotel. I had to plead with the waiter to open my bottle of wine I ordered - "oh you'd like to taste it sir?" was the first unfathomable response! The food (that was available) off the menu was good, although stick to Chinese rather than International Cuisine. They don't get it and as in most Chinese establishments the serving is just a copy of something that should be filling. Greek Antipasti consisted of some Parma Ham and a few small knobs of Feta (not even an Olive in sight!) When one of original Appetiser Dishes was found to be unavailable, we ended up with two - but it was complimentary. Considering there was only six couples in the restaurant that evening, the Service was just poor. The only thing that got any real attention were the beeping mobile phones on the waiter's belts or the pretty young receptionist - could I get one to top my glass up??? Next time I'll have to ask for their mobile number.
