Rated #94 for all Shanghai hotels
Excellent hotel for the money and the location. All staff could speak English if limited but they understood requests and questions. Location excellent! Room size good (even though they were only single beds) and cleanliness also very good! Would recommend this hotel to anyone!
Room size, cleanliness, and features all good for the price. Limited English with some staff but the service was professional and pain-less.
The hotel was just a place to stay, close to everything. It was not equiped with a swimming pool or gym, but with so much to do why wouldn't you go out!

Excellent position - close to main shopping road (Nan Jing), subway, the Bund (river eadge), and pedestrian tunnel across the river to Pudong. We asked for a back room and non-smoking. Very quiet. We ate out - breakfast at a cafe 80m away, and excellent alley stall selling sweet buns 50 m away. Front staff very helpful - you just had to find soemone who spoke English and there was always someone available. Had difficulty connecting to internet - phoned reception - and the 'man' knocked on our door within 5 mins, and connected us. Most impressed.

I stayed in the Metropole Hotel 2 Nights November 1st and 2nd 2008 with my wife and 3 years old daughter the room was small and hold, the bath room was clean but the towels was very thin and hold.
The front deck was speaking good English and workers are nice.
The breakfast was very basic and not so good, need to be improve.
I 'll not come back next time at the Metropole.

The hotel is a classic but in dire need of refurbishment. the bed linen was old and not the cleanest. the Beds were old, Pillows were thin/flat. No Smoking Rooms have ashtrays supplied, and the air conditioning was not turned on in mid May when the weather was Humid and about 27'C!!! Location-wise is ok, short walk to most places. Would i recommend, only if you are on a very tight Budget.

Location location location was the main feature of this hotel! It was fantastic. Once again location, so transport was not a problem.
Eat one evenning in the hotel restaurant - The Shanghai Gardens. It was nice traditional Chinese cusine and very very cheap!
Older hotel with older fixtures and fittings in the room, hallways and lobby, but it was kept clean and fresh. Concierge took my bags on arrival to my room, and collected them and placed them into a taxi that he had organised on check-out.
For its location, room size and features, cleanliness and price, it was a fantastic hotel! simply for its value for money and location. Why spend more when you can stay here!
