Nanjing is situated in south-western Jiangsu Province, to the south of the Yangtze River. Its name means ‘southern capital,’ and historically it functioned at most times as one of China’s most important capital cities. It is a centre for communications and culture, and attracts millions of tourists annually, who come to appreciate its historical monuments and scenic beauty.
Nanjing features an interesting range of activities suitable for children of all ages, including some that will appeal to the entire family. There’s a zoo boasting an extensive collection of native and exotic animals, an underwater world park with numerous fascinating exhibits and also some interesting after-dark attractions including outdoor cultural shows and boat rides in the night market area.

Spring Festival: this festival is known around the world as Chinese New Year and occurs late in January or in February, depending on the lunar calendar. Official celebrations last for a couple of days, but in reality, the festivities continue for the better part of a month. There’s housecleaning to be done, travel back to one’s hometown to be arranged, debts to be settled, food to be prepared and gifts to be bought. Houses and buildings are decorated with signs in gold and red proclaiming best wishes for the New Year, large family feasts are held and the festive atmosphere is enhanced by noisemakers and firecrackers.

Nanjing Lukou International Airport (NKG) is located 35kms from the city centre. The airport and city are connected by a four-lane expressway. This is a busy regional facility, and is serviced largely by domestic flights from all major cities in China. Many international passengers will arrive at Shanghai’s Pudong Airport and then connect by domestic carrier to Nanjing. Facilities at the airport include several cafeterias and restaurants, currency exchanges, and shops, including duty-free outlets. Services include a business centre and a medical centre, providing first aid and emergency care.
