Edmonton International Airport, to the south of Edmonton city, is the city’s gateway, receiving flights from all over Canada and many US cities with the likes of Air Canada, Canadian North, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines. Edmonton also has the City Centre Airport (YXD) which is smaller and three kilometres from the city, but is reserved for commuter airlines and private planes.
Transfer options from Edmonton International Airport to downtown Edmonton include the Sky Shuttle, the Edmonton Jasper Connector, hotel shuttles, taxis and limousines, and car hire. The Sky Shuttle is a cost-effective transfer option, while the Edmonton Jasper Connector runs to the West Edmonton Mall and Jasper for skiing. You can pre-book hire cars online and pick up at Edmonton International Airport.

The best way to get around Edmonton is to use the Light Rail Transit (LRT), which is operated by the same company that operates city buses and connects downtown Edmonton with Northlands Park (north) and the university (south). Downtown LRT travel between Churchill, Central, Bay, Corona, and Grandin is free while prices for the LRT and public buses on the same routes is the same. Day LRT passes are available.

The other main transport option for getting around Edmonton is by taxi and there are several taxi companies operating in the city, including CO-OP Taxi (phone: +1 780 425 2525). The River Valley area is the best area in the city to go cycling while Old Strathcona is good for walking. If you decide to hire a car, book ahead of time online and pick up at the airport to save on time and money.
