Calgary has a semi-arid climate with what seems like only two seasons. Long, cold winters and short, warm summers coupled with heavy thunderstorms. Wintertime temperatures average around -8°C and can drop to -30°C for one or two weeks during January and February. Despite having rather cool temperatures, the lack of humidity lessens the chill factor.

Warm, westerly winds called ‘chinooks’ blow on to Calgary during the cold winter months and can raise the temperature by up to 15°C. During summertime the temperatures rarely soar above 30°C and with recent climate change it is not uncommon to see cool winter-like temperatures in the summer months.
