The staff at the Raffles are generally very pleasant. The food at the hotel is not excellent. Stale bread at breakfast. Really miserable a la carte portion sizes at dinner... which is unacceptable at the prices charged (which compare to more expensive 5 star hotels in HK and Singapore).Apart from the unimpressive food (with excellent service), the hotel has the olde worlde colonial charm potential visitors might seek. Original look bathrooms are a bit grubby though, and it's hard to understand why readily replaceable moulding grout isn't kept clean. The hotel takes a commission on any taxis rides. It's US$7 from the airport to the hotel but US$14 to go back, after the hotel adds its commission. There's no courtesy bus. Hotel charges US$40 for its limousine (a fairly old but not vintage looking stretch BMW).It's about 15/20 mins away from the nearest temples by taxi. About 10 minutes away from the town by tuk-tuk.
